Can a exhaust leak from turbo mani cause internal damage to head/block?

Ever since i fixed my exhaust leak caused from the turbo manifold bolts coming loose, i've had this loud tapping noise which was previously being drowned out by the exhaust leak, sounded like it is coming from head somewhere. I did a compressing test 150 accross, I pulled the valve cover and found nothing wrong and no debris inside the head, so i decided to pull the head and the valves do not look bent at all. this head was previously built by road race with less then 10000 miles since the build. and the sound didn't start until after I drove the car with the exhaust leak from the turbo manifold. is it possible that the tapping noise coming from the block..?what kind of damage can exhaust leak cause to 1g block? or the head..?
 
Its possible its just lifter tick, or it could be spark knock. By running with an exhaust leak before your o2 sensor, could make your car run a little rich. By do that, made carbon deposits form on the piston tops and as the ingtion process going on, your getting some niose.
 
Sounds like that makes sense, but the thing is the noise is pretty loud, like beyond lifter tick, which i've heard before. the tapping noise also seems to in sync with engine rpm, as i reved the engine.
 
Maybe the exhaust leak wasnt the cause of your noise. How many miles are on the bottom end, since the top has 10000. And if its a high number there, could be a bearing. A bearing is f-in loud when it goes, it does sound like taping at first tho.
 
a low mileage jdm motor was swapped in the car, then that head was then removed and then rebuilt by road race, so i can estimate the block to have around maybe 60k to 70k roughly....about how many miles before rod bearings usually go out..?
 
JDM.... very rarely have low mileage. i read it here from someone talking about them and what was said is "how many cars do you know of that are 10-15 years old having ONLY 40,000 miles on them" which is so true. don't beieve that for one second. Have you ever gone to one of those outlets that get them and sell them???????????? I have, and it is horrible what they look like comming in before they powerwash them with acid to get all the 10-15 years of crud off of them
 
I too have done the "JDM" engine swap in mine. I know mine has bad lifter tick. it's loud... it does go away shortly after the car is warmed up though.

As far as the exhaust leak causing your problem, highly unlikely unless it was close to a line or hose and ate through it. you wouldn't see internal damage.

get a long screw driver, press it to the head/block or where ever you think the sound is comming from and put your ear on the handle. kind of like a stethoscope without having to buy one. might help you narrow down your search.
 
It you are sure its not lifter tick, drain your oil out to see if you have metal shavings. If not it just may be your valve lash adjusters. And since you didnt put the majority of the miles on your block, you dont know the actual condition of the internals. A rod bearing or any other bad noise can still happen if you took care of the car from day one. All the parts are man made and go bad, sooner or later.
