I pulled the VC off my head and noticed the intake cam (HKS 264) was scored on the rear lobe (near the battery side) and the bearing which it rolls on (rocker arm?) was scored too. Anyway, when I pulled the VC off I noticed a silvery swirl on the underside of the cover within the oil. Not a whole lot so I decided to drain my oil and noticed nothing exept some swirly discolorations here and there. What can I expect from this??? 1990 awd tsi (new head, new cams 1200 miles ago then had rod/main bearings replaced and turned/polished crank 200 miles ago).

The silvery swirl could be the new bearings. First time i change my oil after i build motors somtimes i get that. The score on the cam lob could be alot of things. How bad is the scoring? If you dont have the money you could put a new rocker on and polish the lob. Not saying that it is the right fix but money has to do with alot of things.

The scoring's about 1/4" and my finger nail goes into it on the rocker. The lobe on the cam wasn't too bad, just a chicken scratch. I think I'll change out the rocker like you said and see what happens. You think it'll mess up my timing in any way?

THat is pretty deep. Change the rocker and get some very very fine emery cloth somthing that wont scratch up your cam lob and try to buff it out. It will not mess up your timing. Good luck :thumb:
