Which of the Crane Cams is the most aggressive and what is the best to run N/A.....I like the miss fire sound but still want a little more power.....if you have any thoughts please write back. Thanks

Crane 0010 are their NA street cams, 0012 are the nitrous cams, 0014 are the turbo grind cams, 0016 are the race cams, and 0018 are the high compression race cams.

Therefore what crane cams to buy depends on what type of setup you're building. For NA like you mentioned, in order of most aggressive to least, would be 0018s, 0016s, or 0010s. But I wouldn't recommend ordering the 16s or 18s if you aren't doing any other headwork.

Well I plan on putting the PT rockers and flowers on and stainless springs and titanium retainers...I just want to get like somewhere between 230-250 hp. I'm eventually gonna slap a turbo on too. Someone else told me to go with the 0014's...but the way I'm putting in all forged internals. I thought about stroking it too but I'm to lazy to get in the real time consuming crap. And one more thing where can I get a DSM link when i slap the turbo on I don't think I'm looking in the right areas...

Not to mention those hp levels you said won't be seen unless you get into the "real time consuming crap" The highest NA hp guy bullet has 175whp and he has everything including MS(megasquirt). Dsm-Zero is right except Portfueler won't do you any goood untill you go turbo because the secondary injectors are boost activated.

Think lower on the horsepower. And dump the flowers, you can pick them in the spring.

I'm eventually gonna slap a turbo on too.

Keep in mind that some of the pieces for power NA will not work well with turbo.

As stated, DSMLink is not for our cars. MSnS would be a good way to go but you will have a great learning curve.

I suggest you get over your laziness because it is obvious that you need to do some more searching and learning.

ok i guess ill go turbo... i talked to a guy on dsmtalk and he said to go portfueler. money is not that big of a problem I'm a 22yo. carpentry journeyman and my chick is a secretary at 550ktrs in here is St.Louis. This is my first DSM to built (used to build 240's and celica's). I learned to go mostly if not all forged on internals but to pistons and connecting rods flying from the celica hehehe. I just want something to keep up the stats on my buddy srt4 and the other buddys 328is BMW. I just got off the horn with a place called Adrenaline Motor Sports for my bore that i want. which is BTW .40. so now what would be more beneficial for me as far as cams.

btw what the frigg is an OP i dont know all the abreviations and such. If someone doesnt mind telling me that would be cool too......and i also appreciate all the help guys. thanks

OP = original poster, aka you in this thread.

and if you want to go turbo now, and still want to stick with the crane brand, get the 0014s.

Yo bore doesn't dictate your cams yo setup does. Seeing how you said your gonna go with turbo logically you want the turbo grinds. Portfueler is a ton more user friendly when it comes to installing and using as it comes with a base setup and you fine tune it on a dyno with a wideband but MSnS has A LOT more control. If your committed to learning something that may take you a while to get then go MSnS you'll benefit more in the end.

MSnS is MS with timing control

Mega-Squirt 'N Spark. It controls fuel and timing and it has a variety of other features as well.

ok i've done alittle research on the megasquirt and I just wanted to know what is the best site to look them up on as far as prices. And also does anyone use the MSD igniton kit and coil pack and what do you think of them.

MSnS isn't a plug and play affair but they do have a site. MSD ignition kit do you mean the DIS-2 or just the plug wires and coil pack?

Most people that have the Crane 14 cams are not happy with them and wish that they would not have spent the money on them. People however have been happy with Crower 2 turbos and Crower 2's. There is a ton of information availible here and on 2gnt.com. If you want to get a lot of horsepower NA then I would recomend the 2.4L swap to you but you would need to fab up some mounts and stuff along with some rewiring of injectors and rotating the cam magnet. You need to decide what direction you want to take the car. The easier of two to make numbers is to just turbo what you have.

I agree with this post ^^^. Here's a good read from 2GNT.com:

Team 2GNT Forum - Viewing message

Go to that link and it will tell you everything you want to know about which cams you should select. If you can't find the answer here that is. I'd say that from reading that if you want to stay with the Crane brand cams, the 12's seem to be the Crower 2 Turbo grind and the Crower 2 equivalent. It seems that it would be wise for you to purchase a good set of cam gears of your choice to dial out the overlap as well. You make up your own mind as to which set you want for your set-up...... :)

Guys your info is wrong on the crane cams I just came from the website and the 0010 is for the 4g63 and that the 0012 is the base for the 420a. It's better to look up the info for better knowledge.

Yes 0010's are for the 4g63 but i think chris meant 0012 (not 0010) in this post :thumb:

oops, I apologize if I was mistaken. I pulled that info directly from Howell Automotive's website. I just re-checked and it does say 10s for 420a street application, 12s for 420a nitrous, 14s for 420a turbo, and so on. Sorry for the confusion but that's where I got it from.

Haha but good job checking with Crane, I'm sure they gave you the right info.

I, as well, apologize if I confused the original poster in any way. However, considering the link I provided, I was simply stating how the guys on 2GNT.com prefer the Crane 12's over the Crane 14's even though they are for turbo. The Crane 12's seem to be the best choice for N/A or forced induction. Let it be Turbo or Nitrous. In the end, the decision is their own as to what they want to use depending on your goals. Thanks for clearing that up guys......:thumb:

It's all cool but I think that the crower stage 2's are by far a more liked and more comon cam among 2gnt guys as they work well with turbo and without.
