Crower's stage 2 cams make a VERY poor attempt at copying the HKS 272 cam. Perhaps that is what he is refering to.

how much is that slight loss in midrange? 5 hp? if its more than that, to be honest, Im a little hesitant about it.

Well, I was told by the past owner they are crower but I didn't know they go by stages so I assumed they are 272 duration because it has a very lumpy idle. I've heard HKS 272's and those crower sound way lumpier.
