Cams(264/264), 9:1 pistons

What do cams, and CR have to do with whether or not you need a OBD-II Eprom ECU?

Do you intend to be able to maximize your set-up? Then yeah, you need DSMLINK., sooooo.......you'll need a 2G EPROM ECU.

Building a 7 bolt is a waste of time, but you already knew that right?

I have never seen a rebuilt 7 bolt last longer than a few days. Good luck.

well I didn't know if the camsand pistons would effect the stock ecu.

for my sake I hope your wrong about the bolt lasting more than a couple of days.

thanks

ps not building it for the strip just a quick daily

While I am a 1g 6 bolt guy lets not go blasting the 7 bolt like it's some POS waste of time engine. I have no idea where you were going with the cams and higher CR but if your only lookin to build a fast street strip carr you would be better off finding a nice 6 bolt and just returning it to good stock status cause they can take about 500hp which will make a real bad ass street car : ) Forged pistons and rods are for people lookin to make a real bad ass track car or a street car with over 500 hp.

I'm getting cams because the stock ones in the head got water on them and rusted a little bit, yeah I could clean the rust of of them but once they rust they are already pitted. I figure why spend the money on another pair of stock cams when I can get an upgrade.

I got the pistons and rods at the same amount I could have got OE for, thats the only reason I got the high CR.

Thanks again

well Millertime, I didn't mean to come off rude if it sounded that way.

I am NOT a fan of 7 bolt engines' stock, rebuilt, fully built, currently running fine, ect.
When it craps on you (as we all know DSMs do) your "really" better off doing the entire 6 bolt swap into your 2g.

I always said "CW this, CW that, when it happens it happens" Well not only did it happen once, it has happened three times to me during my 5 years messing with DSMs. My white 95 GSX in my gallery, ran low on oil and wiped out a main bearing, when I tore the oil pan off and pulled the girdle it was obvious the 1st, and second main were wiped, and the thrust bearing was pretty worn on the side like the vfaq photos show.

My 98 has spit out (2) 7 bolts with excessive wear to the thrust bearing area also.

A COMPLETELY stock 6 bolt longblock is PROVEN to sustain over 400 whp and live a healthy life while doing so. I know, I know, 7 bolts have made tons of Hp too and lived.....awhile.

I dunno. Do what you can afford, thats what we all do.

listen to them and me. 7 bolt is really a waist of time if the average joe does the work! there is a major flaw in the design of the 7 bolt engine concerning proper oiling. this flaw is so major no one but mitsubishi seem to know what it is ect........! but one thing all of us vitims of th cw know is that something certainly is not right with it!!! if you have the money let magnus build your engine they seem to be on to some form of fix but who knows:boring: just dont trust a couple of hundreds of dollars building it most of us only get maybe one chance to build up an engine like we want to just don't waist your money on the 7 bolt;) if you do and it cw you will  like a baby trust me!!!

Not to start problems but my 7bolt walked about 2 years ago. Everything had to be replaced (i didnt own it at the time or else i would have put a 6 bolt in) but one of my best friends did. His dad rebuilt the motor to exact spec on everything in the lower end. I bought the car from him 6 months after the rebuild and have had it for a year and a half and put about 22,000 miles on it. Not to mention quite a few mods and plenty of days at the track. The end gap play is still only at 2 thousndths. So i understand how it can be risky to build a 7 bolt but mine has been fine. For now at least:shhh:
