I have to agree with everyone else...RED definitely. I used engine paint from pepboys. It said something like 1200 degree w/ ceramic. Then I cured the calipers in the oven. My dad wasn't to happy with me, it stinks a bit. I've had them on my car for like 6 months. No chipping, peeling, fading.

I hope you didn't cure ANY paint in your home oven. You are all dying a slow death because of it if so.
:thumbdown OMG

hey while you're down there painting your calipers red, hows about dropping it 1-1.5" too, then it would really look neat, but im sure that's on your to-do list :p

That paint is gorgeous! :thumb:

I'd go with RED. :thumb:

Dont want people to start calling your dsm "Ketchup and Mustard" now do you?

Hi all! This mod looks very clean, and anyone can do it. My step by step guide will ensure you get your calipers lookin awesome! First off, what you need:

1) Wire Brush or Wire Brush Drill Accessory (As shown in a picture below)
2) Drill (this makes the work MUCH faster!!!!)
3) VHT Paint in the color of your choice (I bought 900-1200 degree red paint for 8 bucks at autozone!)
4) MUST BE DONE IN WARM WEATHER!! (70 degrees Farenheit and above) FOR PAINT TO CURE PROPERLY!!

First off, you need to take the tire off the car. So jack it up, and take the lug nuts off.

Doing so, this results in exposure to your caliper, brakes and rotor.

Next, attach your drill bit accessory to your drill like so...

That one is kinda a no brainer, but it shows in detail what kind of wire brush I'm talking about! With the bit on, drill on your caliper till you get a nice, clean shine like so!

Big difference from the before and after. For the next step, I just went to a store, bought a candy bar and got a sack and 1 trash bag from home. Cover your rotor, brake and the under parts with the bags. I found that using the plastic bag from the store works great to cover your rotor and brake! See picture below for how to do it. When the bags are in place, take your first spray!

The VHT paint recommends that you repeat the coats every 20 minutes. I applied 4 coats to mine in total. When you're done with the last spray, take the bags off after a few minutes. You are then left with this sexy lookin beast of a caliper:

Place your tire back on and you're DONE! TA-DA!! Enjoy!

Looks good! :thumb: One question tho...How did you get the bag behind the caliper? Did you remove the pads? If so, you have to take the whole assembly off the rotor right? I have changed my pads and rotors once, and I was just wondering if there was an easier way to cover it rather than take off the pads.

how much overspray did you have on the rotor and the lines and all that other shit? cause you have the stock wheels which arent very open, but with my rims, the brakes are very exposed and i dont want paint slopped everywhere, so how much did you get on everything?

I'd just take the caliper assembly off, remove the brake pads and hang the caliper with a piece of wire. Paint the assembly while it's not on the rotor.

at first I was going to pain t mine as well but they look good when they get cleaned so I may just do that instead

If you do that, at least put a few coats of clear on it, or it will rust very quickly.

that's what I had in mind
my 96 GS-T came with a set of 97-99 GSX wheels
I think it will look a lot better either put those on or my 5 spoke 2g wheels off my red 1g

yeah that one was a little sloppy, the other side was a whole lot better. You can either put maskin tape on the brakes and rotor to prevent it from gettin painted, or you can tape the plastic baggy to it.

why would you not just remove the two bolts that hold the capliper on????

you don't have to undo the lines and you can set it and manuever it however you want when you are painting. That way you don't look like you painted your brake pads.

:thumb: I painted mine today but I used the kit from walmart- 14 bucks and it's brush on. looks good. Good write up

the caliper paint itself, (not engine paint) is very glossy...

I took mine off and painted them black... painted on the ground with cardboard shield to avoid getting any on the pistons...

the regular paint on the cement next to it is faded, but after 3 months where I painted the calipers is still glossy and wet looking.

same for the calipers.. they still look great.

Sup guys,

I was considering buying the folia-tec caliper paint for 35 bucks but saw the Dupli-Color caliper paint at AutoZone, Anyone ever try it? Is it any good? Is it as good as Folia-tec? Any one have any pics of their calipers painted with Dupli-color caliper paint? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I want to paint my brake calipers to match my Barcelona Red 2G Eclipse. 1st, what is the best caliper paint & 2nd...has anyone ever seen a burgandy caliper paint or know of a brand that can be custom mixed?

you'd be best going to a paint store and asking. Iv only seen a few colors of caliper paint. I do know someone who used regular spray paint though and it lasted pretty long, but wasnt shiny. Dont know if he did something wrong or if it just got dull from the heat.

I've used regular paint before it doesn't look that great.

LAst time i painted my calipers I used some caliper spray paint i got at autozone (theyare good for a few things)

They are still shiney after an entierre winter and summer... occasionally (likeevery 4 months) I'll spray em wiht a hose and they look good as new. (BTW I used black, YMMV)
