caliper paint? Do or Don't? [Merged 8-8] painting calipers brake brakes

I remember painting my calipers awhile back. To save yourself from the mess or from doing any masking just buy the brush on type of caliper paint. That's all I did. After it dries, it has a smooth finish. But good job by the way!

i just took some engine paint and primer, and sprayed everywhere... rotor, caliper, and all... cant see any overspray unless you look 12inches away... i guess im the only person who did this? ive never had any problems with it and the rotors cleaned up on the first drive. :D :D :D

I painted mine blue when I put on my cross drilled rotors. I switched to ceramic pads on the front. You can tell the difference in dust from the front and back. I would deffinitly recomend putting ceramic all around to keep them pretty.

ive read couple different threads on this, most of them were abot ppl thinking about doing it (like this one). Im just curious where did you guys get your paint? did any of you sand down your calipers? im just going to do them silver, did you guys use clear coat? i was thinking, just sand them down a little, spray them with 2 coats, then 2 coats of clear. also, what about painting rotors? just thought it would be a little interesting, thanks guys

I got my hi-temp paint at Autozone. I didn't sand any of it down but I did use paint stripper that I had left over... and everything on that caliper just poured off. I used silver on mine, no clear. Painting rotors is a no-go because it'll just come off, hence the circle etchings on the rotors. :thumb:

Edit: Or whatever those marks on the rotors are called, I can't recall the proper name for them.

When I painted my rims, I had a 99cent can of white, So i just sprayed the calipers with it, They still look good and did not lose any color yet after several months! :) You can see them through my rims in my gallery. I didnt use clear coat/primer/ sand paper or anything!

i bought hi temp "anodized look" dupli color spray paint. it has a special primer also. i took off the calipers. steel wooled them, two coats of primer then about 5 light coats of anodized blue spray paint. turned out well. shiny but not ricey looking.

usually all you have to do is clean them up alittle, iv don several and never sanded any except for one that had flaking rust on it. used hi-temp paint and no clear coat, always turned out well.

I guess I'm an extreme caliper painter :)
I sandblast the calipers, strip them, degrease them, mask the stuff I don't want painted, and spray several coats of G2 caliper paint. Once the paint has cured they get new seals, boots, clips, and shims.

Here's a rear caliper.

See, that's odd because I had mine painted red prior to the silver. I didn't sand or anything and just sprayed them. The paint started coming off...fast... and by the time I was recoating them with silver it was only half a red caliper....and it looked like junk.

I just used 1 coat of a hi-temp grill paint (black).
Then went over that with two coats of red paint.

Both of these paints were made for grills I believe. They are brush on paints which allowed me not to have to cover any other brake parts.

Well i just clean everything up and bought hi temp paint and sprayed a few layers. Anyways, as for the rotors (looks better with rims of course) At work we have a machine that "turns" the rotors...basically cuts a layer off to clean them up and straighten them. well what i did i just painted the whole rotor and then i cut them so in the end u can see the outer rim and the base in color. looks very good. Did it to my drilled rotors.

I want to paint my calipers on my Eclipse. It has 2 large ugly grey calipers right now. But I'm having a hard time deciding which colour to paint. Red is traditional and looks sporty and yellow calipers on a red car reminds me of a Ferrari. Either colour would be hot but I don't wanna paint and have a chance to regret this. Which color would you pick? Red or yellow?

Here is a picture of my car to help you decide.
