NOOOOOOO now i need to bleed em too!? and where are those hoses you are talkin about Aikouka? im no expert in making my car stop, im usually worried about makin it go :p would it be a noticible sh#t job if i just spray em with the calipers on?.... i tend to try not to take things apart cuz i have trouble puttin them back on somtimes  Oh yeah, do people normally paint the rear brakes? can you paint drums?... this is more complicated than i anticipated *noob*

i'd say the easiest way is to just remove the caliper but leave the lines connected, you should get enuf slack to get the caliper to the ground and then u dont have to worry about bleeding and all the annoying bullshit, and still be able to get all the areas on the caliper  :thumb:

leave the calipers on and clean them with brake cleaner and a wire brush. Spray the paint into an aluminum can and then from there just take a brush and brush it onto the caliper ... it's much cleaner and you'll be able to get every spot. I'll take pics of mine soon.

Anyone chrome or think about chromeing there calipers ???
I think I'm going that route , what you think ????????

The red calipers look real nice though,

Firebretha..... yours looks real nice and glossy as hell, good job.

hey just out of curiousity has anyone ever seen dark blue (like royal blue or something) painted calipers? and how did it look?

thanks

double tee eff is chrome red look like?

Hey, i just wanted to post up pics of my caliper paint job. First of all, ive never painted anything in my life, and i was just bored and had some caliper paint, brake cleaner, and spare time, so i figured what the heck, if it sucks ill just clean it off before it dries. So i know my paintjob isnt the best, i dont have time to make it perfect, its not like anyone is gonna be gettin 2 inches away from it and sayin hey, you missed a spot :p .
What i did was loosen the lug nuts, THEN jack the car up (forgot to do it in that order the first time and had to lower one tire on the ground to loosen the nuts :shhh: ). Removed the wheels, then proceeded to drench the calipers in brake cleaner and scrub with a hard bristle brush (couldnt find a wire brush). Then i covered the area more or less completely with news paper and started sprayin. I only did the front 2, because i didnt have enough brake cleaner and i didnt want to put my car on 4 jack stands. I plan on doing the rear discs tonight.
I used 4 coats of Caliper paint (forgot the name ill post it when i do my rear calipers), waiting 5 minutes between coats. I then waited an hour and a half and put the wheels back on.
I didnt cover the top of the rotor enough or the middle of the rotor, so i got some paint on there OMG . Shouldnt be too hard to remove it when im not feeling so lazy. So i know there are smears, they will go away... sooner or later. The paint on the rotor itself burned off in the 5minute test run i did.
The paint seems to be ok right now, but its only been a day, looks just like when i put it on. Anyways sorry ive rambled enough, here are the pics :thumb:
The pics with the wheels off are when the paint is still wet, and obviously when the wheels are on, they are dry and were taken after i did a test run.

Let me know what you think!

I like the red, but how did you manage to get all that paint all over the rotors? didnt you mask the area off first?

Well you see i alway heard it would burn off quick if it was on the rotors, but its kinda tricky to get the top of the rotors masked, and the paper wouldnt stay still, it was hard to tape onto the rotors... well ill just get a wire brush and brake cleaner, and get to work :thumb:

hmm looks very nice, I've wanted to paint my calipers for some time now but Im way to lazy to actually take them off and do it. (like the vfaq's say to)

What happens when the pad needs replacing? That paint gonna make it any more troublesome?

i never took my calipers off when i painted them, as you can see by the stray marks
i just masked off and sprayed, cant tell i oversprayed unless you look real close (with the wheels on)

Yea I know, I just never thought of leaving em on there and sprayin em LOL :)

Guys, take the bloody calipers off to paint them. It takes 10 minutes, you'll do a better job, and you won't have drips on the inside of your rotor for all to see, and smell. Not to mention the saftey concerns.

Are you talkin about the safety concerns on the rotors? Unless he is spraying coats of it on the rotor then i see a problem but, i dont see any safety concerns the way he did it.

Looks sweet though everyone always paints em red though...shiet dont be frontin like you have brembos or something haha jp ;)

Buy VHT 1200 degree clearcoat if you want to glossen them up and protect them.

Then sand the rust of your nasty looking hubs and edge of the rotor. Then brush on a "cast iron" 500 degree paint or another non noticeable color. Just buy the rattlecan paint, spray in cup and let thicken for 5 minutes, then brush on.

It will looks 10x better.

Well last night i finished my rear calipers, didnt take nearly as much time. I finally figured out shredding an old white t shirt and using that to mask the rotor is easier, faster, and better. I litterally got no paint on anything i didnt want, except for the very tip of the rotor, which shouldnt be too hard to sand off because i was gonna sand the rust off anyways. Pics when i go home, im at school atm :thumb:
