So you got a ticket for having an aftermarket intake. Was it the actual intake pipe or was it that you had a cone filter instead of the intake box?

Aftermarket intake! Nothing about the K&N.

You kinda asked for it driving the car half naked like that, I would know I took my Gst around the block hoodless and got poped, but he let me drive it back home as I explained about needing to see something under the hood and I live in Va, our cops are 1/4 less NAzi then Cali's but only barely in Fairfax cnty

As far as a ticket , it really shouldnt matter as the intake does jack and shit having to do with any emissions what so ever, its just there to suck in air nothing more, you don't even need the thing except for stupid mas sensor mounted to it, maf-t Ftw :thumb:

Good luck and I would think they will toss that outa court. if not, im sorry and another reason nobody could pay me to live in Cali.:notgood:

What do they want from you then? Just replace it with stock intake, show them and go on your way

I have the feeling I'm going to have a fight on my hands!

It sucks that I tried to keep everything as clean and as legal as possible when I did my rebuild and still got busted for it.

I was dumb for driving without my bumper on yet!

They want me to go see a state referee. I don't know if I have to or if I can just pay the ticket and be done with it. I did take care of the intake. If I have to see the state referee, he's not going to like the Greddy BOV or the oil catch can.

I did find out that an FMIC is perfectly legal in the state of California as long as the car came stock with an IC.

I actually spoke with a state referee about a half hour ago. He said the aftermarket FMIC and IC pipes are ok as long as the car came stock with an IC. Those were his words! He even verified it with someone else there at his station.

Sucks to be you....

I drive around with no cat on all the time. No muffler... Could have african children under the hood for any one cared....No one would notice.

Glad we dont have emissions.

I still have to wonder why an oil catch can would be illegal... what ran through which bureaucrat's mind to draw that conclusion.

Damn, that is some good information to know. Would have been better if I knew it before going with a bigger SMIC. At least I get the sleeper look and attract little to no attention.

Edit: Just realized there was a thread in the Norcal section on aftermarket FMIC's and CARB that I posted in that had this information in it. I just stopped reading it when it was posted. hahaha

Could easily modify it so the breather filter is removed, and replace it with a tube going to the intake pipe again. Wonder if it'd be classified as legal then... wouldn't get any oil in the intake, but would still classify as a closed system if that's the only problem, for crankcase fuel vapor recirculation.

NOPE! That is how mine is ran (back into the intake). I explained that to the state referee but he said the can itself is not legal, even if it is ran back in.

I have a lot of experience being in CA also. Here is some things I found out.

Intercooler piping is NOT legal unless it is stock. You might find a referee who will pass it but a lot will not. The only way to make sure if something is legal or not is to call the CARB. The referees just interpret their laws. My advice is if you find a referee who doesn't mind a lot of that stuff you should go to him :)

As far as the carb was concerned everything aftermarket is illegal unless it has a carb sticker. I even asked them what happens if my plastic intercooler piping is cracked and I can't find a new or used factory replacement? They told me to scrap the car :)

Pretty sweet, huh? :notgood:

Ya, I know alot depends on the state referee. One will say one thing and another one will say something else. Same goes for any smog tech.

I was told I can just pay the ticket and not have to worry about going through the state ref. Not too sure about that though! That's why I'm trying to see if anyone else has gone through this recently
