Ca Speeding Ticket

Recently, an officer pulled me over for

"Disobeying Designated Lane"
"Speeding" (65+ in a 35 zone)
and Proof of Insurnace (i didnt have it on me, but i have it)

a friend recc. me to scheudle court, and re-schedule about 2 times, so 6 months have gone bye. i could then fight it and possibly get it dismissed if the officer doesn't show.

if i don't any idea on how much this could cost?

It all matters on how many points you are willing to get.

You can take the 4 points from the speeding ticket, and the disobeying designated lane would be 2 more.

You cant do much with the insurance card because it is based on if you have it at the time you got pulled over, not if you are insured.

Id say 210 for the speeding, 85 for the lane, and 250 for the insurance, taking all 6 points. So ~500 total.

No points can cost you in the upwards of 800$

When I got a reckless driving ticket. I went to court and got it dismissed and cost $450 and no points. Thats what they call a prayer for judgment. You get one for every 3 years. Then I have to take a 3 hour driving class, which was not bad at all. Pretty fun I might add.

I got one for the lane so your looking at about 160.
The speeding your looking at about 245.
Insurance in the expensive one, if you don't have proof that of insurance then it will cost you about 600.
If you have insurance, don't worry about it they will clear it.

I haven't gotten that ticket in Cali yet, but I've been ticketed for no proof several times (I always seem to misplace my card). I've always been able to have my insurance company fax my info in and have it dropped.

i wouldn't be so sure about that, my roommate has an sr22 against him, (which means he MUST have insurance to have a valid license) and he happened to not have his proof with him... even though the officer ran his license and it came back clean, it still cost him 600

1.) California doesn't note insurance information on the vehicle registration. You must have proof to get your registration renewed, but unlike civilized states, no insurance information is on the return from the DMV.
2.) You were lucky as hell to not have your car impounded.
3.) Yes, you might get dismissal if the officer is a no-show. It'll depend on the judge. "Due process" and obeying the law are principles not well-understood by California municipal courts.

I don't think New Jersey points counting will apply out here.

And for god's sake, USE THE SPELL CHECK.

Yea, I am lucky, because it wasn't neccesarily just those charged, I was speeding like a bat out of hell doing about 95, and the police officer was approaching in the opposite direction ... Soon thereafter, he made an immediate U-turn and turned his lights on, I sped up and blacked out into some street, but he got me anyway, and imposed those charges on me. I'll be scheduling the court date soon enough.

Why would you try and hide from him? You're lucky he was in a good mood and left you off so easily. Now you want to fight the reduced charges he gave you? WOW.

HAHAHAHA! It's funny, but too true, and not just Cali. While technically if he didn't clock you and does not appear to testify, or even if he did clock you and you argue it well, you should get no ticket, judges tend to side with the complaint. It sometimes doesn't matter how good your argument is or how feeble the state's is.


And I don't know why he wouldn't try to hide if he had the chance. I suppose it would piss off the officer if he is caught, but it plays well for him in the long run. There is a good chance the officer will miss him (I 'hid' from lots of cops in the earlier years of my driving and was never found). Even if he does find him, he has left the officer's sight and it makes getting off in court easier, or should, anyway.


*edit* I want to make it clear that I'm not advocating running from the cop or driving wrecklessly to hide. Just turning to a side street and trying to be inconspicuous.

What about not maintaining your lane and going over the speed limit and not having insurance is going to make an officer impound someones car ???

they will impound it on the spot in Philly if you can not show proof of insurance.

i've heard of people getting a ride in a squad car and their car being impounded for no proof of insurance

4 points for a speeding ticket?? wow, and i thought it was just 1 point for speeding..

anyhow.. i got a speeding ticket like 1-2 months ago doing 88, max speed was 70.. i don't mind paying the ticket and taking a driving class, but the thing is my license was suspended for i think 1 year and another year for driving without a license.. it ended Feb 05 i believe.. i haven't renewed my license yet when i got pulled over.. i know as soon as i renew my license i know it will get suspended again, but what you guys think will happen..?
