Am i actually Speeding?

Okay, so i have looked and looked and looked for the answer to this. So don't tell me to look harder! i am the only 2G Eclipse within a 3 city perimiter. So it makes it hard to ask someone (anyone) anything. Unless the Avenger counts as a DSM (which as your forums say it doesn't.) But anywho, what is the absolute bare minimum that your cruise control can/should come on? Now i could ask anyone with a car this. but i want to know Precise. So i want to know the 2g DSM limit. is it 30mph? 25?

preferably FWD N/T.
but seriusly, go for a test drive and find out. mine says 25mph. Am i actually speeding?

Cruise controls are for extended cruising. Hence the name. They were designed for extended cruising at interstate speeds. Yes, they have a lower limit, but probably like everyone else we never thought about it. I use mine at 70 on my interstate when traveling for an extended period. I drive 13 miles to work and can't remember when I have used it for that short trip even though it's interstate.

Just for curiosity's sake, why are you needing this advice? I doubt even the factory service manuals would tell you that as it would probably be considered irrelevant.

You see, i am putting in new gauge faces and whatnot. And like many out there, i am having a little trouble getting an accurate reading. So by using the absolute lowest cruise control setting i can just turn it on, and slip the needle in right. So pretty much i am just using this as a "mile marker" to do a gauge recalibration. Shouldn't be hard at all. i just didn't think to do it before i took it apart. Right now i am judging my speed with my shifting and with the other traffic. Please help.

A handheld GPS would be a good way to go too...

The speedometers built into most I have worked with are really accurate.

i did this a long time ago in my rs. it was a pita. heres what i did. i knew what my car idled at so i turned my car on and put the needle at 800 rpm. and then i put the speedo needle on zero since the car was not going anywhere. i then had my wife pace me in her car and everything worked fine. about a year later i hooked up a safc in my car and it matched the stock tach. so it worked for me. pm me if you want a little help.

Most CC's will not work under 25. The problem is, on most CC's if you set it at 25, then hit a small incline and it drops to 24, instead of making up for the speed loss like it normally would, it just kicks off.

GPS is the best way to calibrate a speedo, it's amazingly accurate.

I "checked" my speedometer by having my wife drive her car at 40MPH and I stayed next to her in my car.

Dont ask how I know this but I know that mine cuts off at 27 mph. ( I was bored with a gps) I wonder why they picked 27? I checked it like 5 times to be sure. I left the car in 4th gear and set the cruise on flat ground and let it slow going up hill untill it cut off at 27.WTF

You have to remember that we're the only weirdos who use mph still in the world. Everyone else uses km/h. For instance I can control when a new Hyundai Sonata locks its doors once moving but all of my settings are for km/h of like 20, 25, 30 which in turn gives me numbers like 12, 14.5, and 17mph. Probably something similar like that for the 17mph reason. Even though the cars were meant for us you still have foreign guys doing the electronics on them.

"Speedometer Check Area" (if they still even have those) and a stopwatch. 1 mile in 60 seconds = 60mph (that's what a "tachymeter" on a watch is for).

A cop drove by when I was trying to set it so I just asked him to cruise at the speed limit so I could double check it. Nice cop Probably one of the oddest requests he'd gotten all week.

Yeah, except now when he pulls you over for speeding you can't say, "Oh, the speedo must be off from when I reinstalled my spedometer needle"
