Buying A Dsm

Ok i want to buy a 92 talon tsi with several mods but its broken the previous owner was driving he stopped at a stop sign and the car died it hasnt started since ?? also he was running an HKS SSQV vented so he was running rich ?? what could the problem be how much to fix it and if it is the alternator should i buy a local parts store alternator or an oem alternator ??

pull the plugs and look inside and look at the shape of the plugs themselves, check for shaft play in the turbo, check the dip for metal shavings in the oil and the oil level, pull the cam gear cover and check the timing belt, cross your fingers and buy away.

If the car is cranking over and sounds like it's trying to start check for spark/fuel. Check spark by testing plugs and wires, see if theres a short somewhere. To check for fuel you can turn car to acc and the injectors should make a clicking noise building up pressure to start if not than it may be injector clips. These are the main two things to look for if the car is cranking but just wont start. After that check for vaccum leaks; no vaccum in system= no start. I would also buy a compression tester from any local auto parts store if you get it started and check the pistons, you don't want to buy a car and find out the pistons/rings need to be replaced.
