hey everybody, im new to the forum and i own a 99 eclipse rs with the 2.0L 420A motor..
I would like to go turbo but i dont wanna turbo the 420A, i would like to do a 4g63 swap front wheel or AWD but i would prefer to go AWD.. would it be easier/more cost efficient to swap all that into my current 2g chassis or just find a GSX with the 4g63???
any help/info is MUCH appreciated

sell your car and get a turbo.. Its going to be a pain in the butt to do what you want.
 
sell the car, get a gst or a gsx. the 4g63 is mounted 180* from the 420a so it would take a lot of work to put one in there, unless you got an evo motor, in which case it would take a LOT of money. your best option is to clean your car up really nice and sell it, then get a gst or a gsx depending on how much money you have/want to spend.
 
thanks.. i know that would be the EASIEST way to do it.. but i look all the time for GSX eclipses and cant seem to find any with decent bodies under 10k??? but thankyou for your input
 
you're looking for a 2g right? because i really don't know a whole lot about fair price for those. I bought my awd tsi for 600 and it was only short about 800 of parts and the past 6 months of labor LOL. you could also get a gst and convert it to awd. that would still be easier and cheaper than putting a 4g in the car you have now. I don't know whether it would be cheaper that getting a gsx or not because, once again, i don't know a whole lot about fair price for 2g's
 
You can find a TON of 2g GSX's for under 5,000 in decent condition. I would look for one closer to stock. Buying a heavily modded car usually only leads to problems in the end.
 
i would have to agree^^ around here n one seems to know what they have. i talked to this older gentlemen the other day and he was like yeah its a blast to drive, but its got this thing where it doesnt really pick up speed until i get going a bit. i was like thats your turbo spooling up, you should have see his face.

a buddy of mine picked his gsx up for 4300. talked the guy down from 5000. you just have to look around. they are out there....somewhere
 
I picked mine up for 7k. it was stock except for the 14b turbo and catback. I think I overpaid.
 
i have a 1g awd for sale in great shape all orig 108,*** miles has stock exhaust off right now cause cat was clogged up so i got my 3" turbo back on it and can go with the car for a Lil extra, I'm asking $ 3,200 obo so let me know
 
sell your car, because there are lots of little things different between an RS and a GSX, apart from the turbo and awd system.

for 10k, you can pick up a 2.0L wrx...
 
Just some advice, dont ever pay more than 8k for a 2g and no more than 3k for a 1g. People will always think that mods on their car mean that its worth more. Most of the time thats not true. If its just little stuff like bolt ons you shouldnt be paying extra. The only time youre gonna pay more is if its a fully built race car(serious engine and tranny work done)

Dont be a complete idiot and pay 15k for a 99 GSX with a few bolt ons. If you have to, have one shipped from somewhere or go out of state and pick one up.
 
i over paid for mine i think. $7100 97 tsi fwd greddy rs bov greddy 24r fmic and pipeing custom 3in turbo back tein ss coilovers. it had a stock rebuild on tranny and a new t25. 73,000 miles. then 2 mo later there was a 2gb eclipse forsale in town with jacks tranny and fresh eagle motor. all for 6400.

You already have the car why waste time looking for another one, and then waste more trying to sell this one. You probably think the 420a isnt worth s@$t, but its not s#$t. Its real easy to turbo it, and not that expensive, many people make pretty good numbers on them. Look on the classifieds for the 420a, you will be surprised what parts you'll find, look it up in the forums and all the members that have turbos and look at their success. And then turbo it yourself and learn a lot of stuff and save a lot of money. Also when you turbo it you will most likely buy "good stuff" that will not be have to be upgraded later down the road for stuff that has to be "matched" for the power you are making.
 
ok, i've thought of doing that also but so many people have told me to just find a GSX or GST because the 420a is crap..
for my next??? ive been finding some cheap ways to turbo the 420a, if i choose to do so will i need to rebuild my motor before i do so?? it has 213,000 miles and runs like a top.. but, it at one time had a small oil leak coming from the head, bad head gasket im assuming but it has stopped leaking.
