bushing on the shifter

the bushing on the shifter has worn out and broke into pieces and i cant find what to call it to order one or where i can find one. its the bushing were the shifter bolts up. Can anyone help me?

Let see a picture. And have you looked at the symborsky shifting kit upgrade?

Yes, I know what you mean. The link provided is for the inside of the car. My question is have you looked at this and does it have the part that's broken. Or are you talking about another part. If so a pic will help narrow it down

Well those parts aren't available as far as I know. Maybe from a parts yard but I couldn't find a replacement kit or parts. I'm in the process of a motor swap but when I have time I was going to head to the hardware store and figure out a solution.

If you tighten everything else up with some CNC aluminum bushings and the kit I linked you to it will be much better. And I'll let you know when I'm done with mine if your still interested.

I saw a couple of posts where people did the same thing but haven't found them again to save them.

You'll be pleased to know that people have found and ordered them no more than a month ago (see first link provided).

Part number is MB580253 for number 2 and MB367320 for number 6 on a '91. However, it seems like the two may be interchangeable.

Thanks for that info. I figured a trip the a dealership would help to narrow them down but I'm over an hour from one so it wasn't at the top of my list LOL. Anyway thanks again I'm sure the OP will like to here the goo news too.

The only shifter I've had the was worse than my Talon was a F150 maybe now I can get the percussion shifting I've been looking for.
 
Since I had this same problem and actually started one of those threads I will share my experience. My shifter had none of the bushings it should have had. I purchased a set to replace them and the difference was amazing, yet it still wasn't as tight as I wanted and I ended up cutting into a plastic bottle and rolling it up and adding that in there along with the bushings. After that my shifter felt really tight with good action. If you're wanting to go with just the bushing route you should also get the #11 bushings.

This is true, when I received mine in the mail they were all identical and fit in numerous places in the shifter linkage.

You can order 6 of MB580253 from https://www.jnztuning.com/oempartscat.html it replace both of 2, 6 and 11 in the diagram above. And yes, the $8.00 is per bushing. So before you make your purchase you may want to try this because even after using just the bushings there was still and improvement for me using plastic as a bushing.

This might sound ghetto, but it worked out great for me. Take the main lever off the shifter. Clean out all the old bushing and lube the bore. Take a 2 liter coke bottle and cut a strip the width of the pivot stud where the lever rides about 5 or so inches long. Roll it into a tube and slide the tube into the shifter lever. Reinstall the shifter lever. If its still too loose cut a longer strip. If its too tight take the tube out and cut some off. After it feels tight and has no slop, add a washer where the nut is that holds the lever on to take the side to side play out of the shifter.

I also used this method on the lower bushings and have the best cable operated shifter I've ever felt. This modification took all of an hour and has lasted for over a year without a hitch. Coke bottles are made out of high density polyethylene plastic. There is no give with this plastic and is easily found. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to do this modification again.
 
Went through something similar, the bushings in the whole shifter mechanism are defintely starting to wear in a lot of these cars. I actually went to home depot and we got tubes of copper or allminum(forgot what metal we used) either way we used a pipe cutter and made our own makeshift bushings.
Shifting never felt as good as it does now.

Since then, I've swapped in the correct bushings and much prefer using them over a piece of copper. It is much tighter than it ever was with the coupling.
