Shifter bushing help

[KCz Eclipse]

I have a 1991 eclipse gsx. It is almost impossible to find reverse and just okay finding the other gears. A mechanic told me i needed shifter bushings, he noticed that there was a lot of play in the shifter. So i called the mitsubishi dealer and they told me i needed 4 bushings. So i got the bushings a little while ago, now there is one problem. Where to put them. I have a picture of the bushing and a picture underneath the shifter boot, but they wont load. Id like to put these in by myself, if possible, not sure how. Anything will help.

the bushings you got are they white plastic?

FYI look into the shifter mod which uses skateboard bearings instead. Hopefully those are the bearings you're talking about replacing anyway..

are you talking abouth the BASE bushings or the linkeage bushings ???

Sorry, i couldnt post a picture. They are actually black plastic, and i think linkage??? They go inside the center console, under the shifter. On the package they are called Gearshift bushings.
