As the title states, I am burning/losing oil from somewhere and have NO idea where. Losing roughly 1qt every 400 miles (Mobile 1 10W30 Synthetic) . . . Here's a run-down of the setup:

2.0L Fully Built Motor (Ok . . . so I still need cams . . .) -- 9500 miles
9:1 Compression -- (185,183,179,176) | (1,2,3,4)
PCV Valve removed & both VC lines run to a vented Catch Can
New Turbo from PTE

-No external leaks that I can tell . . . not a drop!
-Can smell oil burning after coming to a stop.
-Have been told that a puff of smoke can be seen when I accelerate from a stop (not big enough that I can see it in the rear-view though)
-Catch can is almost ALWAYS empty (except for water since I have no PCV)

I've heard/read rumors of ppl burning oil when switching to M1 from another oil (especially Hondas), so next change I'm going to try Castrol Syntec.

Any ideas/tests/things to look at? The place that built my motor is completely clueless as to what it may be and I cant see dumping in a quart every tank of gas on a brand new motor

I have the same problem what i have concluded it's the turbo seal is bad I see a cloud of smoke when i get on it then stops after the boost comes down i have the factory turbo it has 170k on it. :thumb: good luck

I wish that was the case with mine . . . I sent my turbo back to PTE about a month ago to have them check it out and it got a clean bill of health. They even put a new center cartridge in while it was torn apart just for good measure (awesome customer service!) . . . so I do not think that is the case here

Could be an issue related to the engine building. Did the rings seal?

Has it done this ever since the rebuild? Before?

well with the compression #s I have, I'm only assuming the rings sealed . . . as for the build, the only thing that was re-used was the head (had to do a 6-bolt swap). And with the old 6bolt, the most I ever burned was maybe 1/2 qt every 1500 miles . . .so . . . 1 qt every oil change, which seems about average.

I'm trying to rack my brain as to what it may be:

Oil Rings
Turbo
PCV system (or lack of)
Valve Guide seals

It doesn't have the typical symptoms of bad valve guide seals (smoking on startup)
Turbo was just rebuilt by PTE
PCV has been removed and replaced with -6AN lines on it and the breather line

And there's no way in HELL I'm gonna tear down this motor to replace oil rings unless I know for SURE that's what it is :D
