Edmonton,
Hey guys, my goal is to be well into the 13's for this summer; I've always wanted an Evo, but we can't have 'em in Canada so this is the next best thing. Anyways, there's no track around here, so I'm going to have to settle with a ballpark of where I am at :(

Will this mod-list be enough for low 13's?

-s16g turbo
-turbo-back 2.5" exhaust
-3" intake
-custom UICP
-MBC @15psi (should I go more?)
-walbro 190
-ACT 2100 (should this be upgraded to a 2600 anytime soon?)
-new plugs and wires (should I be upgrading to the NGK 7's that we all love?)

I'm not going to have the money for loggin equipment for a couple months so I'm going to get a dyno-tune and hopefully that'll be good enough for a few months. Thoughts?

wait until you can afford something to tune with. For reliability and speed, go with DSMLink. Are those mods things you have already?

BTW, my mod list isn't much more then that and I'm already running BPR7ES, they are great

I have everything but the turbo and the fuel pump installed.

So with the s16g and pump installed a dyno tune likely won't be good enough temprorarily?

And how about times?

What are you going to tune the car with if you don't even have a logger? Since you are 95 I would suggest getting a Keydiver chip and some 550's. They can be had cheap and other than the 3" exhaust my car went 13.2@103 with the mods you listed and the chip and 550's. That deep enough in the 13's for you?

That's deep-enough for my liking :p

But yeah, tuning is my problem... I guess the dyno won't be sufficient and I'll just have to wait on my chip and injectors :( Thanks a lot guys

Hey, just one more question along these lines... What does it cost to get your ECU socketed generally?

IMO, only let Jeff do it. I tried to have mine done locally and they didn't go through the traces well enough. Ended up not working and Jeff was nice enough to swap ECU's with me. Even though I upgraded to DSMlink I cannot say enough good things about Jeff O and his product and customer service. Anyway, I'll ask my question again. You keep making mention of a "dyno tune". What are you going to tune if you don't have anything to tune with? Here's some even better news. The time on my profile was run with a few gallons of 100 mix and a slight crank on the MBC. 12's aren't real far away on that setup.

Sorry :coy: I've never dyno'd a vehicle before, I was under the impression they'd have their own tuning equipment..?

Also: it seems your saying that I should have my ECU sent to Jeff (the owner of Keydiver I'm assuming :) ) and have him socket my ECU and install the chip?

The only way they can tune the car is with some sort of tuning device. Whether it be a piggyback system like an AFC or a standalone like an AEM EMS, or something in between like DSMlink. The stock ECU is not writeable. So unless you have one of those types of things about the most they could do is hack the MAS or adjust the fuel pressure if you had an AFPR. Yes, you should send your ECU to Jeff if possible. He knows what he is doing and if by some freak occurence he did mess it up I'm sure he would fix the situation. Hell he overnighted me another ECU already socketed having no idea who I was, just to help a guy out who only has one car. You don't find that too often anymore.

Alright, I'm sold on a chip and ECU socketing (haven't decided on where/when I'm going to get the socketing done but anyways...). I supposed I could just order the chip and have everything installed and hope for the best yes? I mean an AFC and dsmlink is for fine-tuning and such, but these chips will provide me with a smooth daily driver at least I'm sure, and should tide me over until I can afford some more tuning equipment.

That being said, should I just wait and install the chip, turbo, fuel pump, and injectors all at once? Or is there any single item or itemS that I can install before I'm going to need to tune via the chip (obviously the injectors is a big no-no)?

I did the turbo and pump at the same time. I kept the boost low then though, around 12 psi. Car was decent, although nothing spectacular. It really woke up with the chip and injectors though. My car drove on the chip just like a stock car, just with a little more sac to it.

The NGK 7's are great plugs to run that help to battle knock due to being colder. I run 8's in my car. Only downfall is they foul sooner than 7's so I have to change more often.

Ah perfect, that's what I wanted to hear :) I won't be able to afford the chip and injectors right away, so I'll install the turbo/fuel pump and just run stock boost. Thanks a lot :thumb:

Wow, one more question...

I noticed one of the options on the stage 3 chip was MAS/MAF compensation.. If I were to purchase a GM MAF could the stage 3 chip rule out the need for the GM MAF Translator? (I couldn't find a GM MAF selection in the drop-down menu but thought I'd ask)

P.S. After looking through these chips I'm really quite amazed with what can be done with them :D Also, I'm not planning on going with a GM MAF right away, I'm just curious..

No. The MAF compensation Jeff offers is for 1G/2G sensors that are hacked or aren't OE on a particular car. IE, using a 2G MAF in a 1G car.

I don't know if we've gone over this yet, but do you have an eprom ecu. Because unless you do, you can't chip your ecu.

edit:: I'd also recommend steve piette to do it for you over by me in illinois. He does and awesome job and he's on tuners under the name steve if you have any questions for him. He usually always replies within hours or by the next day for sure.

The reason I suggested the chip is because he has a 95. Odds are in his favor that he already has an EPROM.

A local shop charged me 25 dollars to get my ECU socketed. They then proceeded to bend multiple tracks on both the top and bottom. In the end I sent it in to Tom/Dave at DSMLink and they fixed it for me at a very reasonable price. My advice to you would be to just send it to someone known for their work to avoid the hassle and for a peace of mind.
