I'm installing a FMIC this weekend and i've already taken the bumper cover off and it looks like i'm going to have to do quite a bit of hacking to make it fit:( If I removed the actual bumper (not the bumper cover) would it decrease the structural rigidity of the car in any way or is it strictly for front end collisions. I was thinking about just removing it and making some mounts for the bumper cover to go back on without the actual bumper.

Are you talking about the crash-bar? The big metal thing running side to side? I'll tell you, yes it WILL decrease the umm..."surviveability" of the driver if you remove it but 99% of people remove it anyways. It's just in the way. I don't have one on my car and I'm running the SSAC Short route with that MASSIVE FM. No way it would have fit with the crash-bar still in place.

It is only there for collisions, and to hold your bumper cover up. I used a torch and cut out a section in the middle for mine. You can buy the JMFab bumper to hold the bumper cover up.

Without it in place the bumper usually will sag, atleast the ones I have seen. I would just cut it enough so the FMIC could fit or buy one the of the JMF race bumpers...
