Hey guys I'm looking to build up my 99 gst its bone stock and I get to start from the beginning. So what I really want is to put in some 272 cams but I have no clue if there are certain steps or other mods/ performance parts I have to add before putting the cams in such as injectors valve springs and more please help me out and give me some ideas to the right path !

Go to the bottom of your screen and find Buschur Racing. Then look in their site for DSM upgrade sequence. They're much easier ways to make more power at first than going into the motor to change out cams.

You are on step one and talking about step 50.
You can but you shouldn't do any mods without maintenance first.

Cuz they sound mean and make the car faster duh! but seriously.. follow the BR upgrade path and you will be much happier with the cars performance than running some 272's on a baby turbo.

Well I wasn't planning on going straight for cams. I want to work my way up to that so I was looking for some ideas and some steps I can take and things I can put into my dsm to work my way up to that certain goal.

Define what you want the car to be (daily, weekend warrior, track only/power level/streetability/etc.) and we can recommend certain steps to get you on track to meeting those goals. Having a plan from the start will save you a ton of money down the road.

Totally understandable! It is my daily and I'd like to keep it that way. But I'm running on a smaller budget of about 2k. I want to be able to drive it around like an ordinary car but have it be a sleeper and have some power here and there.

Make sure all the maintenance is up to date then look into a simple 16g setup. You can make around 300fwhp with the turbo, injectors, wally 190 or evo 8/9 fuel pump, and tune. Probably want to look into a new clutch too. Easily within your 2k budget and won't hinder reliability. Since you have a 99 you can just buy an open port 2.0 cable and tune using evoscan.

Boost gauge, wideband, dsmlink. That way you can learn to tune a stock car. Its much safer then learning on a modified car. Plus you can see how mods effect your tune. Ideally the best way to go in my opinion.

Then the usual stuff, intake, exhaust, fuel pump rewire, fuel pump, injectors.

By then you'll know enough about the car on which path you want to take and have burned a nice hole in your wallet.

Maintenance can eat alot of cash unless you're a seasoned mechanic. These cars are old obviously. Plan accordingly.

I've made sure my Maintenance is up to date and everything's running smoothly as it should. Let's hope it stays that way for awhile! I'm loving all of these ideas and starting to get a better picture of where to start at thanks a lot guys

I read a post from another member a while back after I was a good 3-4 years into my build that said the 1st mod should be a "Wideband". I agree with that 1001% and wish I did that before I made any changes to my car so I would at least know what a healthy tune looks like. Seeing how you car performs now that is bone stock would be a perfect baseline to start from for many years to come. And by "seeing" I mean taking logs with you preferable logger(which is "evoscan" for me) with the wideband hooked up. My 2Cents.

Yup.. I agree with Hakmak, I've had 4 DSMs, and I've been lucky enough to get two that were completely untouched. First steps were maintenance and second was a wideband to keep an eye on things, I just recently got DSMlink but have had a wideband in the car over a year now, I firmly believe that you need help keeping up on what you've got before you start to worry about what you're gonna get.

Make sure the timing belt is fresh. It should be replaced at or before 60,000 miles.
