I would like to know who all have crossed their fingers and built their 7 bolt motor and what kind of power did you make? I would also like to know how many encountered CW and how long after the builds...

if you modify the oil flow characteristics of the bearings and crank and make sure the thrust bearing surface is aligned between the two halfs as well as use main dowels to ensure that the main caps cannot shift, you should have "eliminated" cw issue. So far weve built a few 7bolts and none have had issues.

*cw make still occur but the chances of it happening will be reduced

I'm in the process of building a 2.4L "Stroker" with my 7 bolt. I dont expect to see any problems.

Right now I'm building a 1g 7 bolt w/wiseco pistons and eagle rods. My bf's car has a 1g 7bolt 2.3 stroker, but it only has 10k miles on it so far. I've heard the 1g 7bolts aren't supposed to be as prone to walk. I honestly think the whole crankwalk is a little over rated.

i have 2 7bolts im building, 95 block and a 99 block. Using the main dowl pins and checking things a 3rd time, i should't see any problems, im not going for mad hp, but one is going to be built as a stroker someday.

I developed some severe rod-knock last year, so this summer I'm going to have someone build a 7-bolt with eagle rods and weisco pistons for me. I'm only anticipating somewhere between 400-450 hp, so hopefully I won't have any problems.

Can anyone recommend a good place/shop to build a 7-bolt for a reasonable price?

I had my 7bolt bult 4 years ago and have since 30K miles with over 100passes and hundreds of 3rd gear pulls. The comp is still good and oil press is also OK. Last year I trapped 124mph on 27psi..

400 crank hp on a 7-bolt for a LOT of years, 2 or 3 One Laps of America, many, MANY road course events, autox, rallyx, and road rallye action. Ran that way with a VPC. Recently reworked to have a stock MAF and AFC. Lost a good chunk of hp (now only 270 at the wheels) but gained a bunch of torque (making a smidge more torque than HP now!). 2 years like that with a bunch more events on it, now issue other than killing an oil pump (engine survived with no visible damage, which is surprising since it ran for a good 15 seconds with no oil pressure).

Despite all the Internet talk, I've never met anyone that actually had a crankwalk problem with either generation of 7-bolt (and I know a pretty good number of 2g DSMers locally).

I am also seriously thinking about building my 7bolt. Its a hard decision. Any one else with positive or negative experiences?

I'm in the process of building my 7 bolt. The head is at the machinist right now. The block is going next week. I do plan on decent HP numbers, hoping for about 600-650 whp. Do not ask me why, because I dont know.

My only decisions now are what fuel mods and turbo I'm going with.

I have a few photos of my parts in my gallery.

I hope to mildly build my 7-bolt. Eagle Wiesco, why not. Its been proven, and I like to keep things simple.

It's always desireable to change as little as possible anyways. The more things you change, the harder it is to keep making changes... Nothing fits exactly right, etc. Especially with a 6-bolt in a 2g. The more you mod, the worse things get as far as time and research required to make things fit. If that's what you like doing, great, but for those of us that prefer driving to upgrading... :)

I built my 7 bolt ross / eagle with all ARP hardware. Squirters plugged. The only problems I ran into was my oil pressure - it caused my oil pan to leak a little, and I didn't torque my head studs a 3rd time so my head came a little loose.

Have faith in your 7 bolt! If anything, it will teach you even more about DSM motors and engine building in general. If your thinking about it, all I have to say is do your homework and you will be happy with your results.

oh- I've beaten bikes on 17psi now that I beat on a stock motor at 25psi. if your FWD its a great way to improve top end power without worrying about bottom end failure at high RPMs.

What compression was those pistons?

i have a built 7-bolt... no issues with it yet... street tuned... dont have #'s... and i dont plan on gettin it on a dyno any time soon spent so much money i'm afrade i will be disappointed... LOL its got about 15-20000 miles of pretty "spirited" highway miles...

I'm going to start assembling my 7 bolt this week I hope. I've still yet to get cams but I think I'll look this week for some 280's. I will be looking for the cheapest place as I'm a tight wad :p

Eagle 2.4L Forged Crank, Arias 9.1:1 .040 Stroker Pistons, and Eagle H Beam Rods.
