Last year my motor spun a rod bearing. At first I was gonna do a 6-bolt swap but I found a 99 7-bolt for the same price. My goal is to use all original 2g components in my car. Nothing against 1gs I just want to be more on the unique side because nobody else here in Utah is running a built 7-bolt to my knowledge.

The shortblock was finished last spring by Jensen Auto Service here in Utah and it looks tough if I must say so myself! You don't see 7-bolts done up like this very often.

Here's some specs:

2.0-liter 99 Eclipse Revised 7-bolt 4G63T
Eagle Forged H-Beam Rods
Wiseco Forged 9.0:1 CR Pistons
ACL Tri-Metal Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, & Revised 3-piece Thrust Bearing
ARP Main Studs & Rod Bolts
.020 over bore
Balanced Crankshaft
Block Decked & Hot Tanked
Balance Shafts Eliminated

Definitely making some headway on this project. Still have plenty of work to do. I've been working on paying off debt on the car. By the end of this month I will be done with the car loan then the parts buying frenzy can start LOL.

My checklist for 2010 includes

-ECMLink V3 so that I can get on the Link Forums and maybe pick up a few tricks while the car is being built.

-2g Head built by Jensen Auto (same shop that did my shortblock). Already have the HKS 272 cams just need the rest of the valve train. Any opinions on what valves and springs to use would be awesome! I plan on revving to 8k rpm. Been looking into Manley standard size valves and springs.

-FP DSM 82HTA Turbocharger set up. That includes the turbo with an FP Race Mani, 2.5 inch SS o2, and TiAL V44 altogether.

These components are the most expensive for my build so I want them out of the way first. This combination should be more than enough for some 11 second passes.

That's on clean motor and a badass setup, I just hope your car gets sideways before that crank slides sideways.

It's a revised 7 bolt, chances are slim for crankwalk. I think the pistons will start slapping before it walks LOL.

Nice build man.
I'm meeting with my machinist tomorrow to discuss my options and aspirations on building a revised thrust washer 7-bolt 2.2L Stroker.

Why is the top of the block black

That's how the light hit it from the flash on my camera. It's not actually black it's really shiny and reflective from being decked.

98-99 have a revised engine.. as previously stated... they have a 3 piece thrust washer... (or was it four piece??) and i've NEVER herd of one walking.... i'm wondering why more 2g guys don't try to find the revised motors... ??? nice work... :thumb:

Thanks! Late 97s also got them too and yes it's a 3 piece. But for most 2g guys 6 bolts are much easier to come by. This motor basically fell into my lap, I would've gone 6 bolt had I not seen this motor.

Actually guys, it's a 4 piece thrust washer set-up.

^^^ That's my block.
It has two half moon washers, and two regular main bearings, for a total of 4 pieces....

True that. I think it's been referred as a 3 piece (from what I've heard) because it's basically a bearing with a half washer. Versus the earlier 4G63s that have the washer connected to the bearing itself and making a full circle on either side. When I first bought my bearings I was like "WTF how is this supposed to not fall out?" LOL

really nice! check out the fp behive springs and retainers

I've been looking at those. They claim 9k RPM limit. I only want 8K. But I notice they come with aluminium retainers. Would I want to buy some Evo IX titanium ones instead?

Can you tell me more about the Revised 3-piece Thrust Bearing? This is the first I've heard of it and I want to know more. A link to a good thread would be ok. Can you install those in the 95 7-bolt?

The 3 piece (or 4 piece as we've sort of decided ROFL) comes on any block made after June of 1997. The earlier blocks would have to be machined to fit it though.

Strm Trpr posted a good link above.
