It was 60 degrees out today so I called in a vacation day so I could work on the exhaust. Its been a long time since its been this warm in Upstate NY so I wasn't going to miss it.

The VR4 originally had a nice 3" SS exhaust but the downpipe was set up for the T3/T4 turbo that was on the car. It was also a pretty "rude" sounding exhaust which, I like but not for cruising for 10 days strait. So the plan was to use parts off of my exhaust, parts off the original and a couple of 3" resonators to build a new one. The two resonators should tone down the drone our cars can have at ~3500rpms.

I have a SS O2 housing that I built a few years ago that's held up nicely so I am going to keep that. That meant that my down pipe would work too. That made the job pretty simple. Just cut out a big section out of the original, install the two resonators, install some v-band clamps, and install a bung for the wideband O2 sensor.

I took me the better part of a day to get it finished but it fits great and I can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

Nice! Good looking welds. Where did u learn that? I'm interested in learning myself.

It was all done with a mig. A Hobart 140 to be exact. Once you get the settings right its pretty easy stuff. I taught myself how to weld many years ago and I've my fair share of garbage along the way. Like I said, get the settings right so, make it sound like eggs frying in a pan, and its pretty simple from there. Most rental places have MIG welders that you can rent out for the weekend. That way you can practice all you like. Just make sure you get a welder with shielding gas not flux core. Flux core works but its a huge PIA to get right.

man my gsx runs a 3 inch downpipe and then it went to stupid 2 and a half piping with 2 resonators and no rear exhaust and the thing sounded like a v8 and at 3k rpm you could hear it from a mile away. i hate resonators also

I think you may have this backwards. I don't hate resonators in fact I added two 3" resonators to the system. Although resonators hurt performance a little bit we are going to be spending 10 days strait in the car so quieter is better.

you could get a silencer for it when not on tracks so you'll keep three inch piping. delete the exhaust and make it go to straight 4 inch piping in the rear

Best coat those bolts with copper anti-seize! 3M makes the stuff, its great but don't get it on your clothes! It will stay with you wherever you go, so i suggest wearing gloves.

Basically recreated Apex-i exhaust but with v-bands and probably a fraction of the price. I think Im going to replace my apex-i soon with some 3" to 4" aluminum piping...no details yet on what exactly.
