yes my 7 bolt with almost 77k just recently tested at 180 - 175 - 175 - 180. i still have a seperate bank account that im saving for a built 6 bolt, possibly a 2.3 or 2.4. but then i would want a shep tranny to match. i would never build my 7 bolt, period.

i know i know, im just saying, when you say it will walk eventualy, that meant like eventually even at 300,000miles, LOL, and no turbo engine will last that long, weather it walks or just breaks

But i see your point, and i know mitsu had special problems with this, but i figured since mine is a 99 so i should h ave the least chance of walk, i might just build my block, keep it cheaper and simpler and more emission friendly, here in cali they h ook up to your obd2 port so any weird cel lights will #### me up

I am at 80000miles now, and last time i checked compression, i think it was about 160-165 across the board

I am in europe now, so when i get back, i will check it again

I had my 7 bolt built by BJ Cylinder head and after 12k hard driving miles its still in perfect condition. I think too many people freak out about crankwalk. My 95 talon had 90k miles before the oil filter decided to unscrew and drain all my oil. The crank was still in good condition without any play. I have total faith in my built 7 bolt. Thanks BJ!!!!!

If you can't prove it, you shouldn't be talking about it. If a built 7 bolt wasn't put together right then you can't blame the block for crankwalk. Blaming the failure on the year of the block is like blaming a pencel for wrong answers on a test. It's rediculous.

Get proof, spread it around tuners all you want. End of stupid crankwalk discussion. The author of the thread wanted suggestions, use a tq plate to assemble the bottom end, that's my suggestion. If anyone else has real suggestions, rather than "don't build a 7 bolt, you're dumb" then please post them.

Then what are your opinions on 7-bolts assembled from the factory sans torque plate that have yet to walk, nor show any signs of walking?

Fact are facts. Statistics are statistics. Opinions are opinions. Suggestions are suggestions. By all means, he doesn't have to follow mine or yours or anyones. FACT is I have rebuilt a 7-bolt and fact is mine walked 25k miles later. STATISTICS show more 7-bolts walking than 6-bolt. my OPINION is if you're going to invest that much in a block, why take the inherent risk. my SUGGESTION is not to... actually, my suggestion is to NOT rebuild the motor at all, six or seven bolt. Rather, invest the money in bolt-ons. Your block will more than handle your goals... and IF something happens, THEN worry about it.

End of stupid crankwalk discussion.

98spyder - thanks

Like i said, i wanted a good discussion, and i'd like it to keep going

For those that HAVE built their 7 bolts, can you please list off some info about it? Like WHO built it, what parts were used, clearences, and how involved the build was(meaning torque plate? measurements? hand filed? What kind of thrust washers, AND what stock parts were reused etc...)

I would like to hear from some succesful builds

I think its 110% on the builder, its HARD to find a good builder

I still think that any engine, that has all new internals and that is put together 100% to spec, should have no problems with crank walk

OK< ALL THE CRANKWALK PEOPLE, explain this to me:

If a 7 bolt is built with ALL new internals, meaning new bearings, new thrust washers, is measured and remeasured to spec EXACTLY, is line honed/aligned, torque plated, and is put together like it is supposed to be, WHAT EXACTLY will contribute to crank walk?

What part of the engine will now still make it crank walk, its all new??? Is it hte design of the crank???? The block? i dont get it still, not being sacrastic, i really actually want to know

180? DAMN, isnt that higher then a new engine?

I thought 8.5:1 compression should be around 165-170, nio?

i will do a leak down test again and comp,. test when i get home

the saving money on the side is a great idea, thats what im doing now while im in europe for 6 months, except the money is for mods, not a new engine, LOL, which sux cause i already have about 2500 saved up and just bought a used quaife lsd and gsx brakes

The problem is noone really actually knows.

Every CW thread is guesses and misinformation.

Have there been successful built 7-bolts, yes.
Have they CW'd, yes.
Have all of them, no.

My advice is built a 6-bolt and give your self at least a little more insurance.

Also search for a thread by user GSX4LIFE title like "built 7-bolt crankwalked after only 300 miles". His built 7-bolt CW'd after 300 miles then was rebuilt and has been fine ever since.
