Steinbach,
Hey guys, im doing a bit of a 16g build this spring and was wondering if anyone had any input or ideas for parts that i may be missing out on that can give me a little more power. Ill be running on aem ems, hks 272's. aeromotive fpr, 750cc injectors, walbro 255hp, buschur fmic short route kit, e3 16g, And then the cylinder head is ported and polished and has manley valve springs and ti retainers. Im looking to make a good fast reliable 16g car. Am i missing any important things, or does it sound like things are going to roll on nicely. Any input would be great! Im looking to make somewhere in the 350 whp area on 94 octane

Because AEM has a million more feature's than DSMLink but for a 16g car AEM may be a bit of overkill. I have done a couple cars with AEM and honestly you better find someone who REALLY knows what they are doing to tune your daily driving map's as well as your WOT map's. WOT is easy to tune for but daily driving is a whole different story. Honestly for your setup DSMLink would probably be best. Still get the driveability and the tuning ability.

well im probobly only sticking on the 16g for this coming summer.. Ill be changing the turbo setup for next season, i just want to see how fast i can go on the 16g. And i have someone to tune it and the clutch is a SBR3500 Heavy duty

I was just about to say the 272's are too much cam for a 16G but if your going bigger then I guess that's ok.

The only thing people notice with 272's is lower end power suffers a little but at top they pull like hell, most people just do some porting or get it tuned better to make up for the lower loss.

People that I know notice a LOT of lower end power loss. 272's don't come on until about 5K rpm and with even an E16G losing steam at around 6500 it doesn't really make any sense to have a GREAT powerband of 1500-2K rpm.

Now if you were running a Green and shifting at 8500 rpm then it would be a different story. Still going to lose a BUNCH of power < 4500 rpm though.

EDIT: BTW I'm pretty sure the fastest 16G car had 264's FWIW.

those cams are fine,i have bc 280's on a 14b making 340hp and 300lbs at 18psi on e85.
right now im making 445hp/434lbs on a 18g still using the 280's:rocks:.i hope you have a little more for your mod list ### you will need it to make 350 on pump.

had a 14b,my car idles at 700rpm with ease and dosnt shut off.the only prob is when its cold,
it needs to warm up a little before it idles fine.

Only one person said they didn't notice the loss of power in the lower rpm range. I did notice a very nice looking post by someone who sounded like he knew what he was talking about,

The car lost a noticeable amount of torque in the area right before the turbo spools- but once you reach spool....hang on!

The car was noticeably slower in a daily-driver setting because you're always crusing just under boost. Where you would normally just open the throttle a bit more to force the turbo to spool, it would now require a downshift. It's also much easier for the car to fall out of boost between shifts with the 272's, so your shifting is crucial.

Which is exactly what I have noticed in being in friends cars. And the person with the 272's also had a 20G which likes higher rev's a lot more than a 16G.

:sneaky:

I totally believe those numbers. But how much power were you making at 3K rpm? 100 hp? When a smaller cammed car would have been making, I'm guessing, a lot more.

If you want to only make peak power and only drag race then 272's (or 280's) are the way to go, no question. But if you want to make a nice FAT powerband and have a very fun STREET car with a 16G then I think 264's are a much better choice.

But run your 272's and I'll run my 264's and we'll both be happy. :D

EDIT: Oh yeah 434ft/lbs on a 2 liter??!?!?!?!OMG:rocks:

Make the picture larger. What was the boost on the 18G run? E85 helps a lot, it's almost like a race gas pull. Max VE is always around 4K with stock head and intake mani.

I like to keep my car under 3K while street driving so I'm looking for lots of power in that range. Plus I have sand in my vagina and I shift at/around 6500. Maybe I'm just too used to bigger motors.
