Ok I have a 99 gst and with about 150xxx miles the stock turbo started leaking oil in in high boost. So I've decided to build a nice 350-375 hp street car but don't know much about turbos to make a wise choice on which brand and size to go with. The car as it stands makes 290 at the wheels so hopefully with the right turbo and a good tune I should reach my mark. Any ideas on which turbo I should run would be highly appreciated

You can look in the classified section and find a used big 16g. always a good starting choice

The only mods on the car is port and polish head 272 cams and a bigger xspower inter cooler. I'm pretty positive it's the stock turbo but in case ts not it says td04hL on the intake side of the turbo.

That is the same turbo I received on this motor swap I just bought. I believe it is a MHI 13t.

Did you get a tune? How do you know you are pushing 290?? What lbs are you running???

Please update your profile. Seems like 20g or 50 trim is what you need for requested power goals. Along with MORE supporting mods.

Rite now the car is running at 19 psi. I have a turbo smart in line boost controller installed and with the spring tension all the way loose it still hits 19-20 psi. I don't like running it that hard because I think it's too much for that small ass turbo LOL but at 19 psi it hit 290 at the wheels on the 5th pull

The wide and is on order waiting for it to arrive but yes the car is tuned. As far as the specs of the tune I can't help with that. All of the computer and electrical aspects of the car are worked on by my father he is the biggest performance tuner in Miami dade county so I have all the confidence that he tuned it rite

+1 on that. For one if your on 450's your asking for trouble, stock turbo or not. Two you say it put down 290 to the wheels on a fifth gear pull. How are you getting that number? Is it an estimate or dsmlink gave you that number?
Update your profile with your mods so we can help. Were running blind not knowing whats done to the car.

99eclipsegsxdsm when you say that your pretty sure it's a 13g turbo what exactly does that mean. Is it a turbo from the 1st gen or just a really small turbo?

Not a 5th gear pull I got that number on the 5th pull on the dyno. And what do you mean if I'm on 450's I'm asking for trouble?

That's the turbo that came off an automatic 1g. Manual 1gs have a 14b which is bigger and pretty common upgrade for a 2g. If your wide band is on the way then there's no way he can get the best tune out of it. I bet your running really lean if your on stock injectors.

Lol come on man! Biggest tuner in Miami Dade yet your on here asking what turbos you have/to run! 13g turbos are off automatic 1g's. Run an Evo3, youll hit your mark if your really at 290whp.

You do realize the meth is actually for the CAR right? not you?

i dont even think you could hit 250whp on a 13g.

Damn people if Your going to talk shit then just don't reply it's just a waste of your time not mine. And awdtalon just because I said that yes he helps me when he can but like I said he's in Miami and I'm in Orlando don't feel like driving 3 hours or interupt his work when I have such a useful website called dsmtuners which is meant for people to ask questions so of you don't want to answer my questions then why the #### would you reply in the first place

And nickel page put your car on the line I bet I take that shit off the line and top end

This is a pretty bold statement. Think about it imagine I were to come on this forum asking for turbo advice and claiming 300hp to the wheels on a stock T-25 then stating that my dad is Dave Buschur.

Just given you fore warning of the repercussions of such a statement. Its not like your claiming some small in town in Iowa, but Miami Dade County.

But to get back to the topic, making the kind of HP or close to it is fairly easy in a DSM. Bigger injectors, good managemnet system/or a Flash (since you have a 99), pump, etc... But like stated before depending what you consider a budget any mitsu turbo 16/20g will get you there or forcer perforamnce bolt on turbo. Which should be all pretty much a direct bolt on since you might already have a 13g on your car already.

Not trying to rag chinola69 but we've seen many people come here and state pretty similar thing and it not be true (not saying your lying cause idk who's the best tuner in your area is). Theres so much info on this site that everything's easy to find (search). If you need help pm me but I would suggest Make sure your maintenance is up to date then upgrade path. Start with free mods and work your way up through each step unless its already have it done to the car untill your at your goal.

I know you guys are not, this is a great website with so much great information. Sometimes we might forget there were times we didnt know much. I hate to discouraged anyone to ask questions, it is one of the greatest ways to learn, along with some research.

First of all.Dont go claiming 290hp on this site with no phisical link to dyno sheet.

Also 250 can be had on the stock fuel system..But with a 13g,thats going to be awful hard.

Biggest tuner in miami..Again dont go claiming this stuff, unless I can call this guy, and get your dyno sheet.

So for turbo, my suggetions go as follows, 14b, any 16g besides the big, and then fp big t28..I say the t28 at the end cause it's a DIRECT bolt on for 2g cars, there as an mhi turbo takes some modding to Bolt on.You say the turbo on the car is the 13g..Well good, at least the previous owner threw away the t25..Since the turbo is again an mhi, if the oil feed line was upgraded then any other mhi turbo will be bolt on.cause the "install kit" is allready made..Otherwise you will need a new oil feed line..the 13g oil feed is not the same as the manual 1g cars, or 2g cars.

What was used to tune the car? You have a 99 which as stated previously you can use ECU Flash/Evoscan but most people use Ecmlink with the eprom ecu. Was the car tuned before you got it?

The wide and is on order waiting for it to arrive but yes the car is tuned. As far as the specs of the tune I can't help with that. Is your car auto or 5 speed? If your profile is up to date.... and the car has a MHI turbo on it already, I'd get a 16 or 20g because the install kit has already been done. Being a GST, I'd lean more towards the 20g. More lag will help keep wheel spin down and it'll help you get to your goals more easily. You'll need headstuds to keep the head down at 350-375hp. You have a 99 so you have a flashable ECU. Search "Ceddymods" on this site for tuning. I use it. It's not too hard. It's really similar to the tuning EVO's use. There's a member on EVOM called "recompile" that has a set of 'how to tune an EVO' videos that helped me when getting started. There's also a "how to get a basic tune with ECUFlash" thread on here. You'll need a turboback exhaust. Also get a set of 950cc injectors if running pump gas or get some 1200's if you plan on running E85. You'll need a 255 pump and an AFPR. Make sure your maintenance is up to date as well. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
