Well I didn't think this would be a big deal to repair until I realized that the ABS sensor ring makes it impossible to take broken lug studs out without removing it. Problem is...I don't see any way to take the hub assembly apart without using a press. I took the entire hub off the car and there is no access hole or anything to back the studs out.

To make a long story short the guy at the tire shop tightened my lug nuts down with a heavy duty impact. Got a few miles away and the wheels felt wobbly. I was a block away from home so I got lucky....
Took off the centercaps...3 lugnuts lying inside of it with broken studs inside. Kinda need to get to work on Monday..so any help with this would be appreciated. Is a press nessessary for me to repair this?

Thanks in advance

I'd go to an auto parts store and get a nut for the steel wheels and not use your long shank lug nut to install the studs.

Sears sells a kit to reinstall studs, your method for removal is correct. Using the method you mentioned for installation can cause the threads on the stud to be smashed. The kit includes a number of case hardened rings (same material as a impact socket). They are all large enough so the will clear the stud and are thick enough so they will not compress in the center like washers.

I had a new ACT clutch and fly wheel installed about a month ago. a few days ago i was driving threw campus and noticed a horrid sequel coming from the front brake. As i went to take the wheel off i saw that one of the bolts that hold the wheel on where cut off. anyway i took the tire off and inspected the brakes and roters and they look fine so i came to the conclusion that the lug was the problem. anyway, after all this explanation my question is whats involved in replacing the bolt and how much it mite cost to have a shop do it for me.

Take it to a wheel shop or a repair shop that specializes in removing and replacing broken lugs. Pep Boys and Americas Tire do not have the ability to do such so do not waste your time with them. I found a local Goodyear dealer and had them take off the stripped lugnut i had in the GSX. I cant believe that a single lugnut was the reason my car was towed for the first time.

I was driving around the other night (91 AWD) and I hear a loud thudding noise coming from the front of the car, so I get out and look and the front right is missing 4 of 5 studs WTF I call a tow and have it brought to a service station.

The service station called me today and said that for them to replace the front ones they have to disassemble the steering knuckle to bang the old studs out, and since everything is so old and rusty theyre not sure but they believe its going to cost somewhere around $400 to do it. Does this sound correct? Id attempt to do it myself, but the town back to my house is just more money wasting.

Also, they said that because of my wheel spacers, I might have this problem in the future. Any thoughts?

Also, will a 2G hub work on a 1G? I found these

Did you put longer wheel studs on your car when you put the spacers on? If no that's probably why they're breaking. I'll bet you stretched the bolts when you tightened them down, weakening them. As far as removing the hub to replace studs.... I've replaced them without removing it. Just hit them with a hammer and they pop out. Then I used my impact gun, a lugnut, and a bunch of washers to get them pressed on. Just stick the new longer studs(on all 4 corners) in the hub, put the washers on the stud. Then put the lugnut on the stud and tighten in down until the back of the stud is flush with the back of the hub. Make sur you cean up all the rust before you begin. Hope this helps.

i was driving and all the sudden my car started shaking. i went home and notcied one of my lug nut studs broke off and i'm missing a lug nut. i have another dsm that i could take parts off of. where exactly are the lug nut studs attached to. the rotor assembly or what. any install instructions, tips, or ideas????

you should be able to detach the wheel hub (which the studs are pressed into) by unbolting in from the back. w/ an extra parts car, i would just replace the whole hub; otherwise, it's a pain in the butt to press in a stud w/out having a machine shop do it.

OK one of my lug nuts is like cross threaded so it just spins aroung it wont tighten or loosen, i had one of my friends pull as hard as he could and i would slowly try to back of the nut but it just wont catch, what options do i have left?? I am really lost on what to do except find a way to take off the hub and then cut it cut off with a torch.

Please help!!

Most likely you will have to torch it out. I've taken a torch and start burning at the center of the stud straight in. After a period of time, you will get past the point where the nut is holding and voila.

You can ruin a rim if it's aluminum if you are not careful. It's a very tricky process. I've had to do it a number of times.

It can be done. Just be careful like I said.

You're going to have to get a cross tire iron and snap/break the stud off. Then buy another stud at advance auto parts or somewhere that has them. You may need to get a tire shop to do it for you, because you've gotta take the rotor and brake system off to get in to install it. This same thing happened to my 2000 Eclipse and that's what I ended up having to do. But yeah if you can't break it then you'll probably have to back the wheel off as much as you can and cut it with something.

If you do torch it, just dont heat it up too much to the point where its red hot, or you'll boil the grease inside your wheel bearing and ruin it.

When you use a torch to do this you have to either melt the stud out of the nut or cut the nut off. You are not going to get it hot enough during this process to ruin the grease in the hub.

I dont know about that, when me and my friend couldnt get his front rotor off of his talon, we took a torch to it at the shop I worked at, and ended up ruining the wheel bearing because it was heated too much, it is possible.

heres the space i have to work with, so i think what im gonna do is cut one of my three lug keys so it was a end with a hole in it then torch it, but then what do I do after that?? I can do this with any old cheap propane torch right?

No sorry should have been more specific, you need a oxy/acytelene torch. You actually have to melt the stud out of there. Propane doesnt get near hot enough. Sorry. You might be able to take it to a garage and have them do the work, if you find someone that knows what to do. I wouldnt let just anybody attack my car with a torch.ROFL Tighten the other 4 lugs up and go to a tire place and see what they say. Good luck.

I am able to use an oxy accetlyne torch but the rest of the lugs are messed up to.
