Hey all, yesterday when I started my car for some reason my ABS light came on. I haven't needed to use it or anything... it just kinda turned on when I started my car in the afternoon to go home. Anyways, all last night whenever I got in my car and went somewhere the light would come on, and when I turned my car off there was a little sound of a pump. Anyways this morning it had been doing it all night long, and the noise is coming from that brass ABS housing (I'm assuming some sort of ABS pump??) and my battery is dead now. Anyone know what the deal with my abs is?

Thanks in advance.

-David

mine did that and i had to buy a new abs pump its not cheap 1000 for a used one about 2000 for a new one just for the pump

The best thing to do is take it to a dealer and have them look at the ABS codes. Sure you're going to get a really high estimate and all... but if you try throwing a pump on there and that doesn't fix it... the pump is yours and you've still got a problem.

It sounds like one of two things. The abs pump is losing prime and thus pumping all the time to bring the pressure back where it's supposed to be OR it's being comanded to come on regardless of the pressure. But I'd still take it in to have it properly diagnosed.

Can you believe it snowed where I live? Anyway, driving last night, in the snow, I had the pleasure of having to stomp on the brakes a couple of times, thus relizing my ABS wasn't working. I just got the car a month ago and I don't know if maybe the previous owner disconnected it or what, (as I have heard of some people doing that, simply because they do not like ABS), My question is, if the ABS was disconnected, how can I tell? Where do I look? I am writing this little early because I have not had a chance to change out the relay, but any help would appreciated.

wtf is this shit?

man something breaks on my car every ####in day.

i dont even have abs i dont think; i dont have a fuse in the abs slot on the fuse block. for no reason, the abs light comes on, which i ignore at first.
when i turn off my car and start to leave, theres some wack noise coming from my front left fender.

Also, I have this problem. For me its a buzzing or whirring sound. Most of the time, a spin around the block or disconnecting the battery (temporarily?) fixes it. It tends to happen every couple of weeks. This time however, its continually buzzing and my ABS light is on. Nothing I have tried has fixed it. I know this doesn't help you, but I also would appreciate any information.

Thanks!

My car once made the above-described "buzzing" noise coming from the front corner under the hood. The first time I heard it, the ABS light had been on for a few days. The morning I first heard the buzzing noise, that afternoon, after sitting in a lot all day (making the noise), the battery was dead. So I jumped it and the ABS light was no longer on. If the light comes back on, or if makes the noise more times, can this be a problem? Do I have to worry about fixing anything, or check for corroded wires (link above)? Just want to see if these symptoms can lead to an ABS problem. Thanks. :talon:

Ok, I drove my car today and the antilock light came on. It drove fine, but I went on some snow and slammed on the brakes and the abs didn't kick in. Oh well, big deal. However, when I got home I turned the car off and there is a hum comming from the engine bay. Pop the hood and realize the abs thing is humming. Any idea what this is? Should I disconnect the battery overnight so it doesn't drain the battery? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The same exact thing happened to me. also happened on snow..i turned off the car but i did'nt pay attention to the humming noise...after coming back from the bars my car was dead. wouldn't start. Barely started with a jump. NOt sure what it was either

Mine did this twice within the past month or so. It wasn't snowing at all when it happened though. Both times when it happened, I just unplugged the ABS hydraulic unit and plugged it back in and it quit making the noise and worked fine. I have no idea what caused it though.

Sorry to bring back this thread of the dead but has anyone figured out the problem? This JUST happened to my car today and I simply removed the fuse for ABS but if there is a simple fix for this I would definitly like to do it. Pump stays on after engine is turned off just like you stated...

Very strange :-/

Please let me know, thanks!

Now after taking out this fuse my stereo shuts off when the brakes are pushed on, my auto belts don't work, my headlights flicker everytime the brake is touched, and there is no warning beeps or power on when accessory is turned on. Is there some way to just completey disconnect the ABS without interrupting the flow of power to these other problems? I just do not understnad what the hell my car is doing right now... I need help

happened to me as well, removed negative terminals form battery to shut it off, luckily that fixed it temporarily at least hasnt stuck on since

Okay, so I took over the cover to the relay's while it was running and I tried to pull one of em out with a needle-nose pliers. The pliers slipped off the relay and it shut off. So it must be a bad relay. Whatever. It's off now, if it comes back on, I'm just going to pull the fuse again. Oh yea, my other accessories werent working because I didn't have all of my positive cables hooked up. 1 was dangeling, I just missed it in the dark.. ROFL

Strange things going down here... My abs pump is humming away and the car is off
The abs light is on when the car is ruining but this just happend for no reason on the way home from school tonight. the only way to turn it off its to disconnect the battery... any thoughs ?

I had the same problem but on my 1g. my problem turned out to be the abs relays... which were located on the left side of my engine compartment above the uicp... before i replaced them... i would just kind of bang on the top of the plastic cover and the abs pump would shut off with no problem...hope this helps :thumb:

Sounds like the ABS relay went bad.If you own a multi-meter you could pull it out and, test it. There are two types of relays. Wire coil and solid state relays. Since its a 12v auto relay its most likely a solid state relay. If the relay is a wire coil type relay it can be tested for continuity with a multi-meter by setting your multi-meter to measure ohms. If it's a solid state relay you will need to apply voltage to it in order to test the relay. If the relay is stuck shut you will get current flowing through ever terminal on the relay. If the relay is dead period the relay wont open and, close like it suppose to when voltage is applied there for it wont conduct current.
