So I opened up my transmission from my 420a on my 1999 eclipse GS after my clutch went to hell, and found my throw out bearing completely destroyed along with the shaft that the throw out bearing rides on to be snapped off at the base where it meets the bell housing area. I have pictures. I have no idea what this part is even called exactly or how to fix it. Where can I buy a new one? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Yes, a dealer would have it. Note if you go to a Mitsubishi dealer, they will likely be looking for M04761090.

The diagram is simply an exploded view of the transmission. It does not show or indicate any steps to disassemble or get to that component. A service manual would be helpful for a breakdown on how to replace it. Here's the short and skinny of it:

So I need to split the bell housing from the rest of the tranny to pop the seal out? I really don't want to go through all that haha, do you think I could just pop it out through front of the bell housing? Without taking it off? With a big screwdriver? Lol.

So can I just split the bell housing from the rest of the transmission? I mean that doesn't seem to be that big of a job.
No. Thats not how it works. Complete disasembly starting at the opposite end is necessary. This is not a small job.

Okay I rebuilt the transmission and got it all put back together but I have a few questions before I put I back in my car.
1. In nuetral the output still spins if I turn the input shaft by hand, like where the axles go into the differential. Is this normal?
2. 5th gear and reverse gear are harder to turn by hand via the input shaft, especially reverse it's so hard to turn by hand. I just want to know if this is normal.

Note there is no fluid in the transmission.

Yes it can be normal. There is alot of friction between parts. You should be able to stop the differential and still turn input shaft while in neutral. Of course 5th will be hard to turn. Ever try to put the car in 5th from a dead stop? Itll kill the car. Reverse I cant speak to.

Alright sounds good, I put the clutch disc on the splines and tried turning it that way and it feels a lot better, must be normal. Anyway thank you for all the help
