Broken Convertible Roof Bars

Does anyone know where I can go to replace the two CONVERTIBLE ROOF BARS that pull up the top? they are about 14 or so inches long, and they have 2 pivot points, with 2 bends. I am new to this forum or I'd take a picture of mine.

They broke when I tried to take my roof down and it was 1 degree Celsius. I take it the canvas roof froze.

You will notice that I have had them professionally welded back together, but broke immediately after trying to lower the roof.

If anyone has a junk yard in their area, I'd love it if they could pick them up and send them to me

No they didn't Bend, these bars are very thick, I don't think they'd ever bend, but I didn't think they'd ever break either ;P.

These Broke right where there is a bend (a designed one, not a damage bend).

I'll find you a picture.

I don't have a digital camera, because stupid me, I left it in the car with the top down :p

Blue Arrows are where it BROKE and I had some local professionals attempt to re-attach it.

Purple arrows are the pivot points

The pics are very hard to see. Can you be a bit more descriptive? Will the top even fold back?
 
yes the top WILL fold back, and works great except the bars are broken, and I removed the motors so they do not get damaged.

I manually pull up my roof now, it is a big bother then, and girls love power tops.

What more of the bars do you need to see? Am I the only one with Solid strong roof bars? or just the first one dumb enough to break them? :p

PS If ANYONE has a junk yard in their area with a 1995-1999 Eclipse spyder and they would like to remove them for me and ship them i'll make sure they are well compensated.
 
Anyone know the name or part number for this piece? The passenger side (arm) broke off and I would like to order another (arm)

I'm having the same problem with my 97 spyder I rigged the brackets to stay strong but with in seconds of the roof trying to go down they snapped again, ever since i had purchased the car i had to get out of it and manually close the top the rest of the way it isnt a huge problem but just an annoyance any help?
 
I had the same problem. Never could find the parts.

I finally found a complete top assembly including motors and canvas at the junkyard. It set me back $400.

The only other way is to remove the broken bars and take them to a "fabricator" and have two new ones made. Don't know the cost of that but got to be less than a used assembly.

Mitsu does not sell parts, just the whole mechanical assembly for around $1,500 without the motors and canvas.

Cheaper to go used or have it fabricated.

Anyone find out where these bars (Left and Right) can be aquired?

My top goes up and down, but the last section of the roof has to be closed/opened manually.
What causes this to occur?
(it was like this when i purchased the vehicle)
 
Can anyone tell me what exactly do these bars do?
Both of mine are broken and I removed all the broken parts that were left behind.

The roof still retracts, but it goes streight up in the air and when the motor stops, I get out of the car and manually push the first section down so that it fits in the back of the backseat.

Will replacing these bars make the top retraction function properly? or is this just to take some of the weight off of the gear and motor drive?

also anyone have any details of the elastic-bands or what ever it is that makes the first section fold as it is going down?

same problem here anyone know were to get new ones cheaper than 300 bucks each and what would cause them to break anyways?

as you can see i had mine welded up also and one broke in a totally different place again as soon as i let it down

You might want to try and have the local welder weld a peice of flat bar on the sides of it so it will give it more support. Just a thought in case you cannot find another set for a cheaper price.
 
dumb how these are the only aluminum parts in the top and what would cause them to break anyways?

I have both those arms (Left and Right) PM me with an offer with shipping included. The set will be sold to the best offer. These are stock (not fabricated arms) in good condition. NOTE: These are usually sold for alooot because no one wants to part out a convertible top assembly. I'm willing to seperate these off my top for the right price. If not i'd rather sell the entire top together. No low ballers please. I'm trying to help you guy's out :thumb:
