Broken Balance Shaft Belt!

Today i took my timing belt off to put my new hks 264/272 cams in to see that my balance shaft belt was broken! Can i just put a new balance shaft belt on, but the balance shaft sprocket is very rough and can not be turned by hand. I not sure what to do, i do not feel like doing a bs removal. What are my options?

how many miles are on you motor. I bought a jdm swap with a shreaded balance shaft belt just hanging next to the timing belt. I would try to adjust it, but it sounds like if it is really hard to turn maybe something caused the balance shaft to kind of lock up for a second and break the belt. Remember it should fell like a balance shaft is on the end of it, but the last time I turned the BS sprocket with the BS at the end of it, it didnt seem hard to turn.

Sounds like the balance shaft is seized which caused the belt to shred. I wouldn't put a new one on till I fixed that (if you wanted to). You run the risk of the balance shaft belt breaking and getting caught in your timing belt. Either ignore the balance shaft and not put a belt on or fix the banalnce shaft and then put a belt on.

I'd at least take out the rear shaft if you're wanting to run without the belt. Otherwise the rear balance shaft will still be spinning and I'm sure that'll throw the balance off. I just cut the shaft on my rear shaft and left the front one in. Look at www.vfaq.com under the engine section for the balance shaft removal. If the oil pump sprocket is hard to turn by hand, your oil pump may be jacked up. Time to replace the oil pump.
