I just did my timing belt/waterpump/bs belt last weekend, and the car has been running better than ever until today.

I was cruising home at like 25 mph. Stopped at a stop sign, and all the sudden the revs seemed to feel really loose. For a brief moment the engine seemed to sound like it was idling at like 1500 rpm, but the tack was at 1000. A mile later I noticed the temp gauge fully at the half way point (much higher than usual)

When I got home I pop the hood to find my resivoir bottle is boiling over, and the engine bay smells like burning rubber. all the belts look fine, and the car is idling normally. But there is obviously something going on here.

any thoughts?

nope haven't checked that yet, I ran out of daylight. thanks for the idea though. I'm gonna check everything out sunday most likely. even if the balance shaft belt broke, it still wouldn't explain why it would start to overheat all the sudden.

the water pump pulley is spinning freely, and the engine idles well. I'm looking for all the ideas possible as to wtf is happening.

I just drove it around, and it seems ok....temp didn't get quite as high, and the rubber smell was present, but not as bad.

any way to check the bs belt without removing all the belts, and the crank pulley? I really don't want to do all that, and find it's still intact.

the more I think about it, the less likely I think it's the bs belt. I would definately have noticed vibrations right?

I'll definately be checking the crank pully from other posts I've read.

I dont know of any way other than removing everything to check the b.s. belt. And for vibrations, I didn't even realize that my b.s. belt was broken until I took the cover off and saw it sitting in there broke. Hopefully you'll figure your problem out.
