I have a 2.4 6bolt. I also have a new FP3065.
I am hearing no way should I break in the motor with my new FP3065 as might get metal filings in the new turbo and wreck it.
But I am not sure can use my old t25 that easily on the new 2.4 .The water pipe is different.Using a jm fab intake so its different for the piping and stuff and also using a 90 style oil filter housing and think my t25 gets its oil from the filter on my old 7bolt?

So how paranoid do I need to be. I was going to change oil at like 100, 500 and maybe 2000 miles or so. The FP3065 also has a oil filter and would be checking that can cleaning it after each oil change.

So has anyone broke in a new engine with a new turbo like mine?
Its too bad but pretty sure there is no way to run the motor with no turbo on there.
And I do have a really screwed up 14b guess could maybe throw that on for 500 miles or so but wondering if this whole breaking in motor thing is overblown.Of course its much easier just installing the FP3065 at same time as engine.

Guys have done it before. If you are going to use the fp3065 turbo. I would recommend inline oil filter. Like the one fp sells. A 4AN 10 Micron Turbo Oil Filter. It also comes with a restrictor built in. You should be taken the oil from the head also. Because a ball bearing turo do'nt like too much oil.

And make sure you check the filter very often to make sure it's not clogged up, this is very important during breakin. There will be metal shavings in the filter, you don't want that stuff in your new 3065.

I have that filter that FP sells ,the inline one.
I am of course taking oil from the head.
I do have an very old pretty fubared 14b and a good t25. So might be able to rig up something to get them working on the new motor for temporary.
Of course its extra work but the FP3065 isn't cheap..would 500 miles of engine break in be enough with the old turbo?

500 miles should be fine but i would just wait until you switch to synthetic.

Well did some thinking..big pain to get my fubared 14b working and hooking up a t25 is even bigger pain in the butt I think since gone to six bolt now. So guess just put on the FP3065 and hope it don't hurt it..These BB better not be that delicate.I have the oil filter in the line and will be changing out at 100,500 and 2000 I think.Wont run synthetic till next year.

So anyone run a BB turbo on a brand new engine with no problems? Not everyone has an old turbo handy I don't think.

I have a gt14 and i have the SBR inline Earl's filter and the feed coming from the head. My Earl's finline filter is new and unused and I just plan on breakin in my new 6 bolt with the gt14 and I think you would be fine if you picked up a inline filter too. Just change the oil once a week for like a month and then you should be good.

i like to make sure that new or rebuilt motors are broken in with stock or junk turbos. I can't tell you how many times we have seen turbos die from being used on new motors that have all kinds of shavings flowing around. be careful bud.

best of luck.

Based on my experience I would suggest your first oil change after starting the motor for the first time and merely idling the motor for 20-30 minutes - before you even drive it. I followed this technique and also did changes at 50, 150, 300, and 500. Excessive - YES. But the conventional oil you'll be using for breakin isn't that expensive when comparing the cost of pulling the turbo and sending it in for repair.

Remember, smokey says, only YOU can prevent early turbo failures. Good luck.

With a inline filter you should be fine with it on. A well built motor should not have hardley any shavings in it. I usually change oil around 5 times in the first 1000 miles. I wouldnt bother changing the turbos for start up.

Not just another guy throwing advise with nothing, my 4202 will be on my car during start up.

While like I said in my other post I agree with you using your turbo to break in is ok with inline filter the other guys are giving advice not just for nothing they too have used they're own ways to break in the motor and that's just how they do it. Everyon is intitled to they're own way of things.

I got a magentic drain plug , I have the inline fp filter. I will change out my oil at like 30 minutes,100 miles,500 miles and 2000 miles. Filter of course too. That filter mag looks good idea but think the size I need is out of stock .Assume should use the 91 style filter on my 6 bolt swap into my 2g .But maybe have to use the 2g style filter to clear an apexi gt downpipe?

I don't have the downpipe or engine in the car yet. just stock downpipe.
As said I would have to buy another turbo quickly..the t25 looks too hard to put on the 6 bolt 2.4 .my old 14b mabye could work out for a few hundred miles if necessary.I would need to get a new oil line for it,new o2 housing gasket.Think thats about it...Guess could even run with no 02 gasket or just use copper rtv for few hundred miles.
I don't want to hurt my new turbo..you guys are still scaring me a bit.

I put my 2.3 together (6 bolt) with my old T-25, sure it's just rigged in there (cut pipes and rubber with hose clamps to make oil & water lines work.. haha) but it works.. had to do some intresting pipe manufacturing to get everything to line up with my FMIC

sure its a pain. but i'd rather use that turbo up than risk anything more expensive.

Everyone should atleast read this even if you don't decide to use this method. I personaly will as pictures say 1000 words. To be honest I would have a hard time not doing this anyway so now knowing that this is a good way to break in a engine I feel relieved. I saw this link posted by the guy with the yellow car that was on the main page right around new years the new dsmtuners sponsored river.
