whats up my fellow DsMeRs well i just wanted to post that i got my car with 6bolt swap! and it runs good. i just wanted to make sure if i am breaking in my engine right? At 500 - Do Oil Change and Filter. Go withall synthic oil. and i also i got a act clutch with ultra light flywheel. i know the clutch is also 500 miles of easy driving. and then again after 1000 miles do another oil change and filer and open up the filter to see if there is any small pieces of metal to see on the condition of the motor. and right now i dont have a boost controller and my boost is going from stock to 20 psi but that might be my air meter. well if you have anything to add or suggestions on how to break in a 6bolt with clutch let me know thanks and hope everyones dsmis running at top performance!!!!:thumb: :dsm:

I changed my oil after 250 miles and put in synthetic then changed it again at 1000 then every 2000-3000 since. After about 5000 miles and quite a few beatens my compression is 162psi across the board. I did pretty much all my mods at the same time and it was very hard to keep it under 4000rpms but i managed to do it for the first 2000 miles while everything broke in.

I'd give it at least a thousand before the synthetic swap. Then again, I'd probably never go to synthetic..... although I just put a load of Redline in the '95 for its first time. We'll see.

and right now i dont have a boost controller and my boost is going from stock to 20 psi but that might be my air meter.

Please qualify this statement as it could be a sign of somethign wrong with the waste gate.

Take it easy and baby that engine while you break it in. keep the synthetic out for about 1k in my book....standard oil ages better i believe. idle it in the drive way if you want extra oiling break in (no real torque on the bearings but the oil is cooked into the block and parts).

Good luck with the car man still have about a year till the race build.

I was told not to let the engine idle for more than 15-20 minutes as it could cause improper wear of the bearings.

Heres what the machine shop told me that did my machine work:

start the car and let it FULLY warm up. Drive it for about 20 miles with continuous acceleration and decceleration. Then just drive it normal without beating on it or keeping the revs up till you hit around 500 miles. Change the oil and filter and put in synthetic if you want. Then that's it. Beat the hell out of it and go to the dyno :thumb:

the breakin period occurs within 20 miles on the engine.

dont baby it. it will always be slower then someone that drove it normaly. and your rings are seated within 20 mins of being started. did you know that all motorcycle manufatures rev the motor up to limiter the first time it is started. if something goes wrong it was either machined wrong or put together wrong. but breaking it in slow does prolong the time till something goes wrong.

also i would stay away from syn. till you put on 1500 or 2000 miles.

That thing about the motorcylces doesn't sound right. According to the manual from my 03 600rr is says the first 500 miles are critical and you should avoid full throttle starts and rapid acceleration. I was told to keep it under 8000rpms by the dealer also.

I did his method just recently when I broke in my engine. I'm at about 800km (500miles) and it runs strong (knock on wood). I'm driving the car normally now, 10psi on my 18g. My compression test broke, but 1cyl that I could test was about 157psi (metal HG) with stock pistons.

Don't baby the car, its the old way of breaking in an engine for old technology.

after the break in, you may use synthetic. no reason to wait 2000 miles IMO.

agreed... after the break in, switch the oil. no reason that you cant. I was told to vary your rpms when breaking in a motor. give it some throttle and then give it some de-celeration. and occasionally stay in a gear and keep the rpms steady also.

because its still not fully broke in yet. the majority is broken in in the first 20 min. (the most important part of the break in) the rest takes up to 1500 2000 miles and syn. will stop that from happening.
