I just replaced my altenator this morning because my sac II was showing only 10.9 volts last night but now im only maintaining 13.2-13.4 volts and when I boost it will drop to 12.9......what could be wrong? belt too loose? Too tight? bad ground somewhere?

Otherwise besides last night I pretty much always maintained 14v....any ideas?

try using a 1991-1999 alternator off of a saturn with a little modification it fits just fine and its 96amps instead of 75amp

The manual trans altenator is only 65 amps and The one I put on this morning is brand new 0 miles on it.

what are you using to get this reading? I thought my greddy tt was reading my volts correct when it said i was getting 13.2 but then i came to find that it is way innaccurate.

my safc II is showing me the volts and i checked the voltage at the battery while the car was running with a voltmeter and autozone checked it for me with their little computer thing and it was showing 13.2 volts.... I need ideas????

Last time I checked all US turbo cars got the 75A alternator. Only the non-turbo manual cars had the 65A.

How hot was the alternator when you checked the voltage.

What??, you know us DSMers are always looking for a cheap mod that brings results.. so please tell us more .

What model saturn?with what engine.. ???

You need to test your charging system with a good volt meter connected to the battery posts, & check the voltage with the car idling, a/c, headlights & wipers on. Should show no less than 13.4 volts. Also, battery state/condition is a factor. A weak battery will bring charging voltage down too. Charge or replace the battery, & re-check the charging system if it`s still below 13.4 volts . . . :talon:

Manual trans calls for 65amp.
Huh? I looked up a 91 Eclipse turbo and Autozone lists the 75A. The FSM says all 1G US turbo and all automatics get the 75A factory alternator. That's exactly what was in my car from the factory too. I think their data is wrong for the Plymouth and Eagle.

Make sure you have a good clean ground (mounting bolts and bracket are the ground) and B+ wire.

The FSM says the voltage should be 13.9 to 14.9v at 68F, 13.4 to 14.6 at 140F, and 13.1 ro 14.5 at 176F.

If yours continue to be low then the regulator is defective.

B+ wire? what is that?

car battery is only 1.5 yrs old and alternator is a rebuilt one...i bought the exact same alternator from autozone last january (06) and Havent had a problem with my voltage until last night. How can I know if my regulator is defective...where is it and how would I check it?

yes autozones website shows the Eclipse turbo calls for a 75amp alternator but my laser calls for 65 amp....why the difference?

from working at advance auto parts those and going through 4 alternators in a few months time, unless you get a brand new oem from mitsubishi i wouldn't waste anymore money getting one from autozone nor advance for that matter.

I didnt have any problems with my first refurbished alternator.....any ideas someone please help me!!!!

So, what has that got to do with this one? Perhaps this one is junk. If you search you'll see that it's not uncommon for people to get questionable rebuild alternators from the mass market stores.

You've been getting a lot of help but you have to help yourself too.

Have you tried Google for basic information like what B+ means?
