Braided Vacuum Hose

I have a quick question about using braided vacuum lines. I need to do something different because my wastegate hose started cracking/crumbling probably due to it going past the exhaust manifold...

In order to use braided vacuum lines do I need to get the "Magna-Clamp" ends or can I just buy this and use a dremel to cut it to size and slip it on? -

Also, does anyone know off the top of their head what diameter hose I would need for a 38mm Tial wastegate? Thanks for any input!

Wouldn't worm clamps work? Like the snow?

Regular clamps will work you just need something to keep the ends from fraying. You can wrap the ends in electrical tape and put the clamp over the taped end.

This is what I do. The tape starts to look bad after a while but I try and replace the tape when I do oil changes.

Well if you're looking for better than OEM performance why would you not want to use the fittings.

And if you are only doing it for "eye candy" wouldn't frayed or taped ends detract from the "look".

For whichever reason you plan to do the mod my vote leans heavily in the direction of using the correct fittings. IMO the more short cuts you take the higher the risk of "ghosts in the shell" .

I didn't say I don't want to use the ends, just wondering if they're needed or not.

I said I needed a heat resistant hose for my wastegate- Silicone would probably work, but I'd like to do braided for the aesthetics...

Honestly I don't understand how those hose ends work. How would it attach to the nipple on my wastegate using one of those?

i read it twice and quoted you in my reply and still i failed to notice you did give a clear reason for the upgrade. i must be tired. i apologize for missing it.

As to how they work they have an internal worm gear. when you assemble the two halves over the braided line and tighten it will create a secure connection.

not sure what size you would need but, i suspect 1/4 as the tial install sheet says it requires a 6mm source line from the intake mani. 6mm=.236 so i'm betting your banjo nipples are at least .250. as you know i've already made 1 mistake tonight so double check me.

I think I understand. So no other connection is needed for the wastegate- It will clamp onto the nipple while tightening the hose end...Sounds like that's what I'll probably be doing!
