so when i drive my car and i hit boost it sounds like the bov is whistling under boost and then just a little louder when i let off... any ideas? its a greddy bov im not sure what kind (its silver with blue where the recirc hose goes over it) do i need to adjust it or something or is it bad?

Are you using a MBC? My MBC started leaking and making a loud whistling noise when it went bad. It was leaking from the bleed hole even under a few psi. Do a BLT and see where exactly its coming from.

im going thru a divorce and i dont have any of my tools right now, just some basic stuff, but i think its the bov because its the same sound as when the bov goes off

It does sound like your BOV is leaking.

You have a Greddy Type-S correct? It's super easy to adjust.
1. Grab the appropriate wrench and break the nut on top of the BOV loose.
2. Then use the correct allen wrench and turn the shaft clockwise to allow more boost.
3. Tighten nut.

Just tighten it a little bit at a time, go for a test drive, and stop tightening when the whistling stops.

+1 for adjusting the greddy, but that may or may not solve your problem. If the bov is leaking from the seal, adjusting it will do nothing. It might make a minor difference, but it will still need to be fixed.

yea it has to be the bov, but how do i fix it if its not the adjustment? its raining right now and im at work so i cant check until later but i'd like to know what else to do incase...

there is a nut on the top of your bov . Loosen that then turn the actual bolt down so it's lower then tighten the bolt to it . If that doesn't work the spring is probably weak . My type s started doing that awhile back and fixed it with tightening though .

From the sounds of it, it will only be your BOV prematurely letting off or leaking. If not, could also be your turbo dying. Sometimes they will whine a little louder or whistle more near the end of their days.
^^^ +1 When my 16g started to go, it sounded like a vacuum leak (whistling), but got louder after time until it would barely even go into boost.
