by the way, off subject, i've been hearing crankwalk this crankwalk that... what is the def. of crankwalk. i know it's worse in 2nd gens. so i would just like to know.

Crankwalk is when the free play of the crankshaft becomes out of tolerance. This allows the crank to move irregularly inside the block. In DSMs the most common type of crankwalk is when the crank is allowed to slide back and forth from the timing belt end to the transmission end. In severe cases it causes the crank position pickup on the crank to come into contact with its sensor on the block and destroys the sensor, without this signal the ecu will not allow the engine to run. Simply replacing the sensor is useless, since the new sensor will likely be destroyed within a few minutes of replacement. A temporary fix is replacing the main bearings, usually a short-lived repair. To completely fix the problem a new block and crank is generally needed. This problem is much more common in the 7-bolt engines, (7 = # of bolts holding flywheel to crank) all the DSMs built after May of '92 had 7 bolt engines.

ok, hallman pros in the mail, hopefully. i have another question. i also ordered a short shifter today. what do you guys think of the obx short shifter? i know i should just bite the bullet and buy the B&M, but if the obx is any good it would save me some $$$!

I have the B&M and couldn't be happier. Try it on the 30% setting first to see if you like it, then try the 50% setting and see which you prefer. Both are miles better than the stock throw length. One thing I'll also recommend while you're tearing apart your shifter: the Symborski shift kit. It replaces the rubber stock shifter base bushings with metal bushings, which don't allow the shifter base to move, which results in firmer, crisper shifts.

thatnks. where could i find this shift kit. ordering all shift stuff next fri. so i need to resaerch prices.
