Sorry if this has been answered many times before, I tried searching but couldn't get the information I needed.

I bought a knockoff Type-RS on ebay (yeah I know ROFL) and while doing my boost leak test I noticed that it is defninitely leaking, until I screw the adjustment screw in almost all the way. Now, when I screw it in until it doesn't leak, I get compressor surge and it doesn't even blow off. I was just wondering if there was any hope in adjusting it more, or if this thing is just a piece of crap and I should order a new one. My problem is that I need a bov working before this weekend and this thing is only holding 12-13 psi right now.

Thanks,
Eric

That the problem with knock off units. You are probably going to have a hard time getting it set just right since that is the only adjustment on a BOV. There is really nothing else that you can do.

yeah I pretty much figured :p

well in that case, anyone have a 1g BOV sittin around that they can send out today/tomorrow overnight? :thumb:

Ya I think your pretty much out of luck. Just like you said when the valve is adjusted to lose you won't hold enough boost but if adjusted to tight it won't blow off correctly & you'll get some compressor surge. Looks like the valve itself is defective as with the actual Greddy valves that I've used, they hold 20 psi no problem even with the tension adjusted at its weekest.

It seems like I have heard bad things about even the genuine greddys... especially the RS. Have you had any personal experience with the RSs? Those seem to be the most common Greddys now, and I don't have a problem with ordering one right now if it means I can boost 20psi by the weekend.

I have a real greddy RS and I've had no leaking problems out of it running 20psi. Have you tried messing around with the springs inside to see if you can get it set right by removing one?...also my RS is for sale :D

I have to second that last post, my fake greddy rs holds better than my old real one did. I bought the first, it leaked all over the place, and then I got a fake one for WAAYYY less money.

There aren't too many ways to make a BOV crappy or good. I am certain I just had bad luck with my real RS. It was probably a bad flange seal or something. But i'd have to say for the money, its worth buying a fake one to try again.

I paid:
Greddy RS - 135
Faker RS - 37

Yes I ran a real Type RS prior to my SSQV & still have it. It worked great for me, Ive ran/tested it up to 22 psi & no leaks. I basically had the bolt adjusted to the weekest setting as well.
