Ok so I have a 1996 gsx i installed a 1998 ecu in so i could tune it after my rebuild. everything works pretty well. so i took the car to UMS to get a dyno tune done. My timing was logged and it looked like a ricter scale for earthquakes. I ended up with 15 psi and 168HP. we are thinking my cam sensor is bad. please help. cant drive till this is solved. egt temps go too high even though afr is good.

o yeah it bounces from around 5* to 32*

:( no one has any input for me?

id replace that cas... definatly sound like a major timing issue.. you ever attempt to set the base timing on that?

You sure it isn't a lack of a proper tune? the timing should hold fairly steady when wide open, and when cruising but just due to the engine's requirements it's going to change a lot under normal driving.

Got a pic or log we can look at to help determine what might be wrong? Just saying it was all over the place is a little vague

a 1996 dsm with a 98 ecu from my experience will need a 1g CAS, other than that the car will vibrate like hell at around 3000 rpm and you will have a real lack of power. most people will say to swap the plug wires or try swapping injectors plugs but i had no luck with this on my 96 tsi and 98 ecu. i just bolted on a green top CAS and purchased the magnus conversion harness and my car ran like a dream afterwards. unfortunately it does cost money to get it converted but if you not fealing lazy or get a wicked price on the conversion harness you can make one (schematics are on RRE's website)...hope this can help.

its not the tune. we cant even tune it because the timing log looks like this. take a pen and paper. now scrible really fast up and down as you go across the page. tony at ums tuning told me to figure it out and bring it back to get the tune.

well you do have to switch the plug wire because the firing order from the coil pack is different. i did that. can runs fine other than the timing. ill post what happens after the sensor swap.

Ok this is the fix for people out there with a 95-96 turbo eclipse that switch to a flashable 98-99 ecu. You must install the 97-99 cam sensor and re wire it. I did it by cutting my 1996 cam sensor so i could use the pigtail to make it so I didn't have to cut my factory harness. My Problem is now solved. I will be adding pictures and better explaination very soon so It will help people like me unlike the help i have recieved so far. Acually i will do a write up all by its self on. I will call It "swapping from 95-96 to 98-99 Tunable ECU".
thank you
it will be in depth

the only reason why i suggested the 1g cas is that i read that the intake cam must be taped to accept the thru bolt of the 97 cas. glad you fixed it :thumb:
