Ok. So since I tore down my old block and found everything wrong with it I tried for months and weeks finding the parts to create a new bottom end. Well I haven't been successful on people telling me the truth on most things so now I'm at a point of were I'm tired of it. Now for the reason of this post. The block I ended up getting and still have turns out it was bored .20 so I now need new pistons because my stock set I got from a friend won't work. I have a few options. I can get topline lines for .20 and jus go on with the build or I been doing my research and have been considering getting evo pistons nd going that route or 2g on 1g rods. I'm sure that there are tons of other options. But. I have a budget. And I'll be lucky if I can use 350 on pistons and rings. So my question to you guys is what other options do I have. I don't want a power house set up right now. But I don't want a weak set up either. So I'm not being mean but I would like people that are going to respond know what they're talking about and can have specifics to back it up. Meaning if the evo pistons on 1g rods are possible what year of evo and what size are they going to have to be to fit my bore nd what would fit my budget as well. Thanks for your input guys.

a completely stock engine rebuild will still be anything but weak.......this is the 4g63 were talking about here

yes i understand that but i sure as heck don't want a 7.8 compression im trying to build somewhat of a powerful but reliable bottom end with good compression and when i have the extra money to do the upgraded fuel system and and tuning ill be able to do so without rebuilding it again

It seems like this is a pump gas car, so the last thing you want is high compression.

This is a turbo car, low compression allows you to run more boost and timing on pump gas, so you make the power that way. If you plan on running meth as part of your street tune, or E85, than you can run more compression, but for regular pump gas low compression works just fine.

Most of the 400+whp pump gas cars you'll see, including mine, are below 8.5:1.

agreed. lower compression = higher boost levels = more power. but you do lose a bit of spool up and the off-boost power differences are fairly noticeable.

7.8:1 is dog poo for a full weight car. 8.8:1 is a world of difference but isn't that "high" of compression.

+1. couldn't have said it better.

I'm pretty sure that all the evo pistons you're going to find are standard bore for the 4g63...unless you're talking about buying after market ones. The model of evo that can typically have parts swapped to/from it easily with the DSM is the Evo III...if that helps any. Honestly...you're in quite the pickle, I'm not sure what your options are in the 350.00 range...with it being bored over...you'll almost certainly have to swing the cash for new after market pistons. I looked briefly at the site I order everything from...and the cheapest set of pistons they have is around 470.00

Evo pistons aren't going to give you 8.8:1 in a DSM block and DSM head. One would need a thinner head gasket and smaller combustion chambers.

so if i go with the 2g pistons on a 1g rod creating a 8.5:1 compression ratio would i be doing the best of both worlds then??

im just asking because this is information that im told and im trying to decide.. im now gonna be getting help and i was gonna send in my extra head and three sets of rods to dsm motor sports and pay like 120 for 2g pistons on 1g rods with arp studs
