Me and a buddy of mine a in the process of boosting his 92 talon NT. We bought a parts 92 talon Tsi that had all the parts on it.

I am using VFAQ as my guide. Most of the swap is simple and straight foward. However I have a question about one of the steps.

24. Now on to the MAF plug. The n/t uses a smaller MAF plug on the harness, so cut that one off about 2 inches from the plug. Separate the wires and strip them so you're ready to twist and solder. Do the same on the plug that you cut off the turbo car's wiring harness. Match the colors and for the one on the turbo plug that has no match, solder it to the extra wire you ran to the ECU for the MAF. Tape it all up and make sure it's waterproof, if this shorts out it could burn out your MAF and ECU. Also make sure you get a good, low resistance solder joint on this connection, or your ECU could get a lower voltage reading from the MAF, causing you to possibly run lean and melt expensive parts.(I'm not sure about this though, I never looked into exactly what signal that wire is carrying... but I'd hate to find out the hard way).

Is this really necissary? And why? I mean. I know people who have boosted cars and dont solder anything into their ecu? So why is this telling me I have to?

I think this step is simply attaching a turbo MAS connector to the non-turbo harness because the non-turbo sensor connector won't fit the turbo MAS. If you don't want to solder, use butt end connectors available at radioshack.
