Why do poeple say that you should not boost at all while breaking in a new clutch. I recently just installed an act 2600 with street disc and fidanza fw. Occasionally I will see some boost on the 14b but I never really go over 3k. Is this bad?
-thank you

Just drive it easy for the first 500 miles. 3k rpms should be fine. After the 500 mile....beat the snot out of it...jk

what do u mean by easy. its only seen 10 psi max a couple of times and about 5. How do i know if im actaully ####ing anything up

If you boost too much, you take the risk of glazing the clutch which will render it useless. I do not know how much you really enjoy doing/paying for clutch jobs, but if I were you I would not boost more than 2-3psi. It's very possible, it's only 500 miles, why risk it?
In my own experience, I shifted at no more than 2k rpms for that break-in period. Chances are you'll be okay but I would hate to see you have to do it over.

Most clutch manufacturers recommend city driving for this reason. Not much boosting + some easy slipping to "break it in" (wear the flywheel and clutch).

is there anyway you can tell that you glazed your clutch just by the feel of it and the pedal?

Why would you need to worry about this if you have been taking it easy? :toobad:

A glazed clutch will not grab, it is the same as a slipping clutch. If you notice slight slipping after the 500 mile break in, it may not be over yet, drive a little 'easier' on it for another 50 miles and check to see if you are still slipping.

how would i notice slight slipping. Do you mean like dump the clutch and see if it slips, or boost it and see if it slips?
-thanks

If you are done with the break-in and during normal driving (starting from a dead stop or accelerating) the clutch slips at all (indicated by you accelerating, the RPMs climbing and the car staying at a constant speed), it probably needs to be changed again though you may be able to extend the break in period giving it another 250miles or so to see if it begins working correctly. If it is slipping during boost right after the break-in period, try 'taking it easy' again for another 50 miles. I would never recommend dumping the clutch - especially right after break-in - though what you do with your own car is your own business.

Are you saying you have been driving it hard without proper break in and the purpose of this thread is to find out if any damage has been done? How many miles are you into the new clutch?

Im about 200 miles into the break in. NO i havent been beating on the clutch, Ive just boosted it a couple of times at max 10 psi and there were no signs of slipping at all

Then just disconnect the actuator arm from the flapper and drive it like it's a n/t till 500 miles since you seem to have issues with self control. :)

LOL, hey I couldnt resist boosting it a little bit since my car was down for about 6 months rebuilding my engine. Yeah I know, thats a long time.
