montreal,
when doing a boost leak test how long do u have to pressurise the turbo im using a 150psi compresor and im not getting anything on my boost gauge

It takes my car only about 10 seconds or less to start showing pressure in the system. If you can't get anything to show then you have a really big boost leak. If you have a manual boost controller did you take the line off of it and cap it as the boost controller itself will leak?

i dont know my friend lent me the compressor i just grabbed the hose and start pressurising LOL

yes i have a manual boost controller i didnt touch that what line do i have to take off?

Take off the line that goes from the pressurized side of the turbo (nipple on the housing/ J-pipe/ wherever the boost source is coming from) and cap this line off well. You don't have to disturb the line that runs to the wastegate acctuator.

if its not a big hole you can hear, but if lets say if you take the hose from ic and let the air in you wouldnt be able to hear well ,because the air would be coming our really fast

the hoses that where on the air intake, since i have to take it off to do the test do they have to be blocked off or something?

I would still try to get a pressure regulator!!! You don’t want to have to rebuild your head because you blew your valve seals. Or injector seals, intake gasket, etc...

As for your boost leak problem... Pull the tester off the turbo and make sure the valve your using isn’t broken, or something.

pressure regulator? whats that for

You put it between the compressor and the air chuck. It limits the amount of pressure to what you set it at. You want it to prevent 150psi of air wrecking something in your engine.:thumb: Not saying that you couldn’t get lucky and just blow off an intake pipe, but its for safety.

so you can regulate the air compressor air pressure so you dont hurt your engine! You want to set it around the amount of boost you plan on running.

LOL, beat me to it! +1

ok thanks ill look into it and as for the boost leak test does anyone have any other suggestions as to why im not getting anything on my boost gauge?

Do you have a mechanical or electronic boost gauge? If you have an electronic one, you will need to have the key in the "on" position for it to work. You most likely have a huge boost leak though.

i tried both with the key in on and off i get nothing, where can i have that big of a boost leak? i seriously dont know wher to check

Check all intercooler piping, throttle body, intake manifold, all vacuum hoses, intercooler. I'm sure there are more I have missed too. It helps to spray soapy water everywhere to identify leaks easier. If there is a leak, the soapy water will make bubbles that are easy to see.

Well??? Just put air to the tester outside of the car. If no air goes through it... ;)

LOL. Sorry dude. I forgot your the one who actually has to go outside and do this... :D Does that mean I’m impatient???

Just an idea... Pull the oil cap off and the coolant pressure cap off, hook up the tester and listen through there. It's a long shot... But maybe. Also, when you have the chuck on the valve, does the upper intake pipe get hard (the one going to the throttle body)?

Also, does the car run?
