Hey guys, so I just bought my first DSM the other night from a friend, its a 1993 Eagle Talon TSi AWD and he told me everthing that is wrong with it, such as its not boosting past like 5 pounds of boost, if that!!! and I tried looking online for what it could be and really got nothing nd my friend told me some of the things that could be causing it is, crack in the exhaust housing, or the external wastegate is messed up. so can any one else tell me what else the problem might be and how I would go about to find out what it truly is and how to fix it, that would be great!:thumb:

Thanks

oh ya and another thing is i know i have a vaccuum leak, idk if this would cause anything, such as a boost leak, but please let me know, sorry if this is a really terribale question.

Yea you need to pressurize your turbo system to make sure you don't have any leaks do this by making a Boost Leak Tester clamping it down to the turbo, hooking it up to a compressor and pressurizing the system. And yes, if you have any vacuum leaks they turn into a boost leaks when you go into boost.

Do this and fix the leaks. Then, get back to us on how it runs.

Alright thank you so much again, im pretty sure there should be a forum on here on how to do the BLT so ill look at that, see what i all need and how to do it. Thanks and yes i will get right back to you guys.

Alright Thank!!!!:thumb:
Ya i just found a few threads on here and on google on how to construct and do the boost leak test. Thank you so much again, also one more question, would you reccommend i redo my vaccuum lines myself or professionally?

In regards to your PM: here is a link to a boost leak tester. If you search in google for "boost leak tester" this is the first link in the list: IC Pipe Tester

Do the vacuum lines yourself. Pull a line off and put a new one in its place. Professional is not needed. In fact they'd probably mess it up worse.

alright thanks you guys so much i will be doing the BLT with in the next few days i just need to find a person with a air compressor and the vaccuum lines link thank you so much for becuase i just went to SS Auto's and asked them to fix my allignment and a wheel bearing and they told me 59 for the alignment which i dont think is too bad and then another 250 to 300 for the wheel bearing which i think is a little outragous but what ever i dont know how to replace so ill have to have them do it.
ill get back to you guys in results once i do all that.

oh also another thing is, since i have a vaccuum leak and i mean pretty bad one i belive, but could that be the only reson im only pushing 5 lbs of boost through or would that only be part of the problem? and does any one know the sizes of the vaccum lines on a 93 Talon TSi AWD

If one of your vacuum lines is broken it's not going to keep you from boosting more than 5 lbs. A leak that will keep you from boosting much is a leak in your upper/lower intercooler pipes/couplers or a huge hole in your intercooler. Either that or your wastegate is not functioning correctly.

By the sounds of it, I would guess that you're vacuum leak is one problem on a laundry list of problems. But no, a vacuum leak will not hinder you from boosting past 5 lbs. Tackle them one by one, and your car will love you for it.

Be sure to do any regular and preventative maintenence before worrying about having a super fast car. If you dont do the regulars, your car will never run like it should.

Read through all the new member stuff, and the basics of DSM's and tuning. I would also go HowStuffWorks - Learn How Everything Works! and read up on how a turbocharger works in a vehicle. Little things like this should help to give you a better understanding of how everything flows and goes together under the hood.

Be gentle, patient, and loving. Make sure to name her, and welcome to the world of DSM's. :dsm::talon::laser:

Might want to do a compression test just to make sure the head gasket is good. I know my car is leaking boost and one of the places that we think it is is the head gasket. It is also leaking from the throttle body internal seals and from the turbo where that clamp is if you look at it. Also make sure you follow the guide on this forum on cheap hp or w/e its called. One of the things it mentions is to get all the oil out of your intercooler....while your doing this make sure all the piping is tight. Mine was leaking from there as well.

O and if your funds allow, get a better boost guage than the stock one since it really doesn't read actual boost, its a number that the ECU is computing, although it is usually in the general area of your actual boost

OK the compression test 135 on all 4, and i belive thats out of 180, if im correct, and i still need to do a boost leak test. i will check all the tubing tommorrow and all becuase im a little tired. I also have to get my wheel bearing changed and my alignment fixed. So this will prob what ill be doing tommrrow.

135 across the board should be fine. The fact that they are all very similar is a very good sign.

Alright, well i know it aint much but i bought the wheel bearing today to replace in my right driver wheel. I also found some one to buy my 94 Ford Probe too so my rebuild my not take as long as i thought it will:thumb: so we will see but once i start a rebuid, i will make sure to take pics and start a thread of my rebuild and keep you guys updated!!!:talon::dsm::laser:
