boost leak behind the TB, no clue?

Has anyone ever had a leak behind their TB? I did another boost leak and I can hear PSSSS behind the TB. I use soapy water but I can't see behind there. I want to know what it is before I take it apart.

Another question, my car was at a really high idle 24-7, so I turn down the BISS screw all the way until it stops and the idle went down to 900RPM. It was at 1700 RPM before that. I checked the throttle cable and tighten it a bit to 0 % when throttle is close but idle is still at 900RPM. What is going on?

sounds like a nice sized boost leak.

you should have a brake booster line behind your intake manifold. those have caused some people some good boost leaks.

there should be some vacuum lines running behind/under your IM, check those out, make sure they are plugged in, as well as your egr valve's vacuum lines, they are nearby as well.

check all your vacuum lines and make sure they are on nice and snug, with no chance of coming off easily.

a boost leak test would be the first step you should take.

Throttle body shaft seals are your leak more than likely.

And second have you bypassed the coolant lines to the TB? That will cause your high idle problems. No coolant to the FIAV will cause it to bump the idle up.

on a 2G you need a way to hold the ISC in the middle step (usually via a scantool) while adjusting the idle. if you just turn the BISS screw, the ISC will compensate for any changes you make.

Does anyone know where the FIAV is located on the TB, maybe a pic. I am thinking this may be the problem because at times I can smell the coolant when the motor is super hot.

its directly underneath the TB

It could also be your intake manifold gasket.

Yeah, it could be the FAIV, ISC, one many vacuum line connectors that hook to the manifold, throttle body shaft, even the intake manifold gasket could make it sound like its comming from the TB.

I guess its safe to say that a gool 'old fashioned boost leak test is the best idea for shadowdrag.
