Hey guys, I'm still finding the perfect setup for my turbo to be installed sometime soon. I was wondering if anyone can vouch for the dual-stage boost controllers? Due to us having FWD, I was thinking this would be beneficial to maintaining traction off the line. I figured 11 psi on stage 1 , then switch to 18 psi or so after hitting 2nd gear. This would keep me from spinning everywhere in 1st. Would the extra money for this pay off in the end? Or is it just another feature added for lazy tuners? TIA

P.s- Recommendations are welcome. :thumb: I'm still reasearching on what to use. Im on a budget, so don't suggest the $500 controllers because it's nowhere near my price range. I am looking @ something around $100-$250 . Nothing too overkill..

If $250 is your limit, You might want to just go for the electronic boost controller

A lil over I know, but that is brand new, I'm sure there are some used ones going for lower than that.

But a Dual stage isn't a bad idea for $140

I guess its up to you, if your willing to pay $250, save another $50 and go for the electronic one. But if money really is tight, then I'd say save your money and go for a $80 manual one until you can afford an electric one (IMO)

I'm so confused...you're talking about running 18 pounds on your 420a which is no ordinary feat, yet you are dead set on a price range for boost controller WTF

My motor is fully built. 18psi w/ proper fuel isn't really an issue with the setup I've worked on. Boost control just isn't something I want to spend too much money on. Just because I can doesnt meen I should. All I need is something to control and operate boost. I don;t want to spend a fortune on all these features I won't use and know nothing about. I'm just torn on which route to go. Dual stage or single.

Dual stage gives you more adjustability from the cockpit.

Personally i recomend savig another 100.00 and buying the greddy profec b spec 2 boost controller. very nice easy to use controller. Stay away from HKS.

I think what he means is that, running that much boost on our type of cars with the set-up's we have to run, why skimp on something something like boost control.

It's not just a boost level with an electronic controller, you can have your boost rise with the RPM's, No boost spiking like you get with mechanical one.

Here is my opion, don't bother with the dual stage, either go with a cheap manual boost controller (under $100), or step up to a profec B for like $289

The dual stage has too many cons.....to expenisive for what it does, and you still get the boost spike, and can't control the boost curves. Electronic is the way to go no doubt, but if you can't afford it right now, go with a cheap mechanical one, and save up for one.

how bout some pics

Yea that dual stage looks similiar to the Turboxs one I'm interested in. So what would be the pros and cons of a electronic vs. manual one? I like the idea of manual, its simple and effective. Profec-B is somthing I'll look into. What kind of advantages other then prevention of boost spike would I be seeing with an electronic boost controller?

Well I would say its ability to control the solinoide it uses at different rpm ranges....which creates a smooth boost curve during acceleration....so on a chart the curve would be smooth and not up and down or whatever.
Also with the ability to set boost per gear, you can have 1st gear only be really low amount of boost (for traction) and go up until you hit your max boost in whatever gear you want that to be.

Don't foget the fact you can control boost from inside your car.

I was looking at the greddy profec b spec 2 I had one on my MX6gt and it was nice. However people have talked about controling boost with MS. If thats the case Im going that way I just need to research it

I have been using TURBOIMPORT.COM. They are great! I haven't had any problems with them. They have tons of items in stock and they ship out the same day. I bought a GReddy Spec B II boost controller for 279 which is a steal for that piece!!! Look around most places have it listed for 325-500. You might as well get a turbo timer too ( if you don't have 1 yet ) I just bought mine, another Greddy product * instructions are in ###. * so brush up on your foreign languages. But it was like 75 with shipping, yet another great deal. Check it out guys!!:thumb:

IF you are a greddy product abuser (like I am) and your tired of reading instructions in Japanese (like I was) here is a tip.

Go to www.greddy.com

click on "Tech"

Then click on whatever product you are inquiring about, and boom there are the instructions in ENGLISH.

p.s. If you just went turbo and are posting about turbo stuff, please please please update your profile.
