so what do you guys think.

ive been looking around at various things and if i got all bolt ons id get a significant increase in horsepower, and could start getting things now, and for cheaper.

but on the other hand I have a 7bolt engine with 97k miles on it, so I want to do a forged internal 6bolt swap. which will cost over a thousand.

so really should I get stuff faster, and i will need eventually and just transfer over to the new motor when i save for that, or should I just wait for the engine, have something with about 0 miles on it running strong, and just have the stock turbo ect untill I can afford another one?

I dont think im explaining this well, but I hope you all understand what I mean.

98k miles isnt a whole lot if the engine has been treated well over time.

dont go 6 bolt forged until your 7 kicks the bucket, it is quite possible that it may take years before that, so dont waste money ona engine right yet.

Yes, don't underestimate 7-bolt. Stick with it until it goes out on you. Sure the 6-bolt's can hold more HP on stock internals, but not much more than the 7-bolt. I doubt you will be getting into the 10's soon, so save the money and go with bolt-ons for now:thumb:

I agree, don't swap the engine unless you have that extra cash or unless your 7bolt croaks.

thats what I was thinking.

good thing is to my knowledge the engine has been well mantained (previous owner said synthetic oil and 2500 mi changes) and I do about the same. only thing wrong with it is lifter tick, but thats not a big worry.

only con I can think of is if I do not have enough money saved when the engine does deside to croak : /

should be good for at least another 50k though right?

Lemme tell you this... as a friend... ( dont flame on this DSMR's )

As you said you dont have the money to replace the engine if it were to crank or take a dump... everyone here thinks your doing it just for speed, from what i here from you, u want a car that you can forget about crank walk and high mileage... Yes i know you want speed, and every one and there brother do bolt on's 1st, i mean come on andy... is your car that slow you must mod it already.... I think not, I got a block for you. Do it right and just build up a 6bolt and swap it in and or just wait for it to die and then swap it. You risk more of a chance blowing your engine adding more hp. And if that does blow you are shits creek; since you would have blown all your money on bolt on's.
Plus if you just build the block up 1st your going to beat most cars out there by just motor... 210 isnt insanly high to get, you could have all motor talon taking on the turbo ones, but see you will have all the oem parts we could take and plug right to that engine. Do what you want though, your going to here alot of disagrees to this more then likley but... I think im right.

There are other easy mods, get a 1g block , 2g pistons, 1g rods, 1g head, and you will see a good improvement to the hp.

its because he wanted a 2g ... 1g's look ugly and most people cant afford a 2g TSi , and uhh ... if you got the money to rebuild in engine then why not. thats like saying why did you buy ur 1g if you planed on upgrading it.... why not just buy somethin faster....

Any performance mod that you can do to a 2g, can most likely be transfered over to the 6 bolt. Just push it as far as it can go (just dont be an ass and blow it up on purpose). The 6 bolt is a better motor overall, but the 7 is still a 4g63 none the less. :thumb:
