I just bought my 95 eclipse gst, the people i got it from said it needed a cam sensor and an oil pump. I recently found out that someone i know knew the people that I got it from and said that the engine was blown. I haven't had a chance to see or hear the car run. Is there anyway i can tell if its blown without getting too deep into the motor? im already kinda in over my head with the other stuff since this is the first time i've ever had to mess with these kinds of engines.

Make sure the timing belt is still in tact, do a compression test, drain the oil and look for metal.

Report back.

timing belt is still in tact and i didnt see any metal in the oil although it did have alot of tiny bubbles floating in it LOL, i dont have things to do a compression test. can i just hold my hand over the spark plug hole and check?

That won't work, a compression tester is about $25 at advanced.

figured LOL ill have to wait till tomorrow to do that then. wife ran off with our only working vehicle.

i planned on it just gotta wait till tomorrow afternoon since im working outside since i no longer have a shop

ok i pulled the oil pan and there is this really fine gray sand looking stuff in the bottom of the pan...i don't think its metal looks to dull to me but im not sure...i don't really pull off that many oil pans and look at them so i dont know if this is normal or if its parts of my engine? any suggestions?

Pull the engine out and tear it down, sounds like you have some machine work to do.

Post pics for reference.

You'll catch on quick. The fuel smell is probably from cranking it over repeatedly without it running, just dumping fuel and washing down the cylinder walls.
