I am looking into an HKS SSQV bov for my 2G. I was told by the people down at my customs store that I need to buy a $35 flange and WELD it into my piping. The BOV is $175 and they want another $175 for an HKS "kit".

I just bought a used hard piping setup off a buddy the other day and I'm wondering do I still the kit and flange if I have a hard pipe?

thank you

Thats kinda high priced. The valve pricing is about normal but i dunno about this install kit and as for a welded flange i think the flanges go for around 10 bucks plus shipping.

The pipe that you have. Is it flanged for a blow off valve already? If so what kind. And why hks is it just the sound you want ? There are plenty of bovs out there an you can pick them up cheaper then that. I rock a 1g bov:hellyeah: because i have 3 in the garage an i never need to buy a new one an you can get them to hold 30 psi. I think the hks is the most common among tuner cars.

I know a few people who have SSQV on their DSM and they say its very good. The pipe is flanged I believe. (i dont really know how to gets pics up on here) The pipeing setup is a GReddy but as long as its flanged I dont think having an HKS BOV on a GReddy is a big deal.

Right now Im deciding between an SSQV and GReddy recirculating BOV

Its not a big deal to go get that flange welded on. Its gonna be cheaper if you buy the flange and have it welded. You might be able to find one thats already set up for a dsm.

Im gonna take the pipe to the store and having the BOV test fitted on. Then I'll see what comes in this "kit"

Tial, greddy, hks, blitz, forge, all great names all work well all have there ups an downs. So if spending 175 on a bov because of how it sounds and that makes you happy an you have the money to do so then party on. But if your just buying it because your friends say its good i just mentioned 5 great companies. I bought my own intercooler piping and custom cut it to my car. I bought a flange off of extreme psi,(also on roadraceenginering.com and slow boy racing has them). I took my 1g dsm bov flange and pipe to someone who can tig weld and it cost me 20 bucks to have that flange welded on, and i already had the bovs laying around which i hawked out of a junkyard for free. So i have 30 bucks into my bov with shipping. So if money is not an item to you then by all means cut the old flange off weld the new one on slap it on the car and spend 175 on a bov. If money is an item then well you can see how well i saved and i would say do it that way. Hope this helps man.

are you going to recirculate it?

dont get a Greddy RS some people have good luck with them, most dont. my car came with one and it leaked at 15psi, if i stiffened the spring anymore i would get alot of compressor surge,

just get a 1g BOV and be done with it for cheap!

1G BOV's can be had for $20 and can hold 20+psi unmodded. I see no reason to ever choose another valve unless you have the need to dump a lot of air quickly (i.e. huge turbo with large piping).

exactly! and with the Dodge Garage mod they are suppose to be able to hold up to 30 psi,

Tial's going on my AWD for sure as it'll be primarily a race car and I don't want to risk damaging my turbo from compressor surge during quick shifts at high boost.

For 99% of streetable DSM's, a 1G BOV is exactly what you need.
