Block rebuild

I have recently acquired a 1995 eagle Talon from a friend. He hasn't driven the car in a year because it started to knock and was told it was due to a rob bearing. Well I towed the car to a local shop that mainly works on DSM's and it was confirmed a bad rod bearing.
They told me that they knocking was coming out of the number 1 cylinder. They quoted $3500 to repair. My question is if only one cylinder is gone would it not be possible assuming nothing else has gone bad to just replace the piston, rod, and bearing in that one cylinder? and should this cost $3500? The engine currently has a stroker kit already.

My other option I was considering was just trying to pick up a stock bottom end. The previous owner spent alot of money putting high quality parts in both the head and the block. I know just a stock bottom end, when tuned right, would still be a stought car.

Any advis would be helpful,

this is what happened to mine and i have tried to find the right parts for over 1 month
mine was the same thing number 1
but when mine went it took out the crank,and rod
if you change anything in the bottom end and the other block isn't hurt and you don't need a crank then just replace the rod and bearings and put it back together

I am starting to think about just asking the shop that has the car how much they would charge me to go a head and pull the engine and see exactly what it needs. I dont know if this would be cheaper then just trying to pick up a stock block and having them just swap it out.

3500 is very steep, I would say save your money tow your car home spend 200 on a engine hoist, 30 on a tool set 25 on a manual, and countless hours of using the search tool here, and order a new engine from say slowboy or something, you'd save atlease 500-1000 doing so.

tell them to go blow themselves. you can get a brand new fully built and setup stroker shortblock for less then that to handle over 600hp... and get a felpro permatorque mls HG and some L19 studs... for less then that shop quoted you even. check out their site.

i would personally recommend MAPerformance.

I was thinking 3500 was a steep myself. The last engine swap I did was on a 93 Honda civic, I only spent $800 total, however I had a garage, tools and countless amounts of time on my hands.

The shop said i could save about a grand just getting a rebuild kit.

I found several rebuild kits anywhere from $580-$1000

My only issue is I know little to nothing about DSM's every car I have ever built or owned has been a Honda.

$3500? Screw that! Yeah man you could buy a built motor for that. Get it out of that shp asap.

If you have rebuilt the motor in a Honda then you can rebuild the motor in a DSM. It's the same basic components, just get a manual and go for it.

rebuild your motor. you can get a bulletproof motor along with bulletproof HG and studs... for about 3500... and then you could just sell your motor for someone to salvage that REALLY knows what they are doing. in the end you may end up paying 2500 for your motor after selling yours. unless you could call up MAPerformance and see if they will do a bandaid and fix/replace the stuff that is messed up rather then doing a whole new bottom end.

btw.. pulling the motor is VERY EASY!!
